Hmm, I am thinking of making more mods to my Superlux 668B (yes it is modded already for some time haha!)
I am now deciding between putting the filter into the headphone, or just build a small box for it. I got some spare craft foam and cardboard to work with, but will definitely need to get the parts and maybe a breadboard or something...
Also, I really need to change the pads again; those velour pads I got are now flaking!

Superlux supplies the velvet pads separately. Otherwise original AKG K240 Velourspads will do. The Chinese knock-offs sound quite different as well. never had velourspads falling apart, Have had pleather pads flaking.

Thanks, I am indeed searching for the AKG K240 pads as I think they are more comfortable; I liked the AKG K240's comfort back some time ago, just couldn't afford them at that point of time. I didn't know Superlux has their own velvet pads though...
I think the pads I am using now aren't Chinese per se but they are definitely not original. The velour part of the pads are looking a little rough than those velour pads I have for my Beyerdynamics Custom One Pro but the pleather parts of the pads are indeed flaking

Testing the AKG K240 MKII velour pads from the AKG service centre here with the Suplerlux 668B now
WAY more comfy than the previous pads for sure! Cheaper too; I paid only 19.80 SGD for a pair of them, way cheaper than those older pads I had I think?

Inside the Superlux thread of head-fi someone have posted this image: The Beyers DT990 velour pads can suit good on the HD668b, or others and future Superlux models ( 687/688 prototype ) ? They cost much, but look so damn comfortable.

I have no idea how he pulled that off or should I say over. The diameter of the DTxx0 pads is much smaller than that of the Superlux enclosure. I have never been able to fit those. Never dared to stretch them so far either, afraid I would rip the pads apart or not being able to use them any more. Maybe he stretched the hell out of those pads or heated the plastic mounting flap ?
Beyer pads are very confortable indeed but haven't found headphones other than Beyers itself where they bring something positive to the sound. The DT770 pads and DT990 pads measure very differently, well over 10dB

Good to know So, sounding aside, between the pads you have tried on this and other Superlux model, which do you think is the most comfortable ?

When we are talking of comfort only the most pleasant pads I have here are Brainwavz pads. There are considerable sound differences between various HM5 pads so it is not recommended to just slap on the most comfortable pads one can find and is able to fit. Also not all pads have enough room for bigger ears or are pretty flat. From pads I have here regardless of where they can be fitted on. HD800 > most HM5 > Beyerdynamic DTxx0 > TH-X00 > Superlux velvet > Shure velours > ATH-MSR7 pads > Chinese K240 pads > Philips uptown > AKG K240 > HIFIMAN HE350 velours This order may be different when other headphones are included, for instance the Audeze pads are quite comfortable and lots of other headphones as well so this is just what I have here or remember being comfortable. On Superlux models the original velvet pads are the most comfortable and best sounding pads to me. BUT only if your ears aren't on the bigger size and when the rather limited height adjustment is sufficient. Here are some of these pads mounted to the HE-350:

The velour/velvet pads on the 687/688 prototype are different compared to the ones sold with the actually 681/662 Evo models, or they are the same, apart from the fact that the color look more purplish ?

The HD687 and HD688 came with pleather pads only. On my request they sent me some velourspads with the HD687 as well.
The HD688 has the exact same chassis as the HD662EVO, the HD687 has the HD681-EVO chassis.
I suspect the final versions may have the same chassis but hope they are working on a better design. The HD688 in the picture has K240 pads on it. The HD687 has had modifications to the driver and needed Chinese K240 replacement pads because of that. So both headphones had non original pads on it when the picture was taken. My HD688 now has Superlux velvet pads which are real black ones.
I have no idea what the HD687 and HD688 will look like and or what pads come with it when they are finalised and released.
