More worryingly still is that people are prepared to pay those prices! Perhaps conditioned rather than prepared might be a better word???
It wasn't so long ago that £200-300 bought you a 'flagship' headphone. Now those 'phones are condescendingly labelled mid-fi as if they're somehow less capable now than they were back in the day. I think you need to spend an awful lot more to better something like the HD600 when paired with a good amp.
The good news is that there's more choice than ever, perhaps too much, and you can buy great sounding gear to suit most budgets.
Whilst I'm sure some would say even £100 is rather extravagant I do think that in relative terms the DT990 is a real bargain. Since I got mine I don't think I'd be exaggerating if I said they'd seen more use than all my other home headphones combined....most of which cost considerably more. Just a very enjoyable and musical headphone to listen to.

Absolutely Mark. The problem is that many can't hear these headphones before buying them and they rely on 'gurus' to make an expensive choice I guess. My DT990's have always been used heavily as well. I've had a few of them!! When you think, I can buy 8 or 9 DT990s with tax and all for the price of a th900 it shows their worth imo. They might not be the most revealing of headphones, but they just sound really nice with most stuff, so they're a really good work horse. I should have kept my old 600 ohm one though because I think they're more even in response and still not expensive. It's so good to have the old Mark back. I feel like the hole in the pavement has been filled in.

Thanks Ian, I appreciate that. It's good to be back.
I'm also glad I could be of some service. Even if it's just to stop you from falling down the odd pothole or two!
