I have bought the higher 'comfy pads' they don't measure well nor sound that great, they reduce bass and increase the 5kHz region. The ones i'm using ( see the other thread ) ? Sealing is not that good with them, the surface is not plain. It was a choice of need for me, anyway. My ears are damn picky, between size, deep, pressure and heat I have try also a pair of costly pads ( angled, leather, with the inner oval shaped ) and they sound better on the HD688, but now my ears burn

Ah, i have misunderstand. You was referring to the hybrid wish of dmcrimson.
Strange to see an hybrid with velour inside, normally they have leather outside and inside, with the velour only where they touch the skin.

Thank you solderdude for the description of the modifications of these headphones! I tried a lot of different modifications of these headphones and I liked this option: 1. I completely removed the felt disk in front of the speaker (improves details); 2. I only use pleather pads (better bass and tonal balance); 3. I drilled four holes in each cups (I think this modification has not improved or worsened, so I did not seal the holes); 4. Inside the cups I put a circle of sound-absorbing plate "Shumanet" 1 cm thick (as anti-reflection, dramatically improved detail). In the middle of the circle I cut a circle to improve the bass (I don't know sell these plate outside of Russia): 5. Replaced the wire: I think the result of these modifications has improved detail and tonal balance.

See my posts on HD688 and HD687 threads. 110mm velour pad is better than 105mm. If its more dense its good. Some chinese sellers sell lower quality pads and bass bleed out more. Good velours does not make too big difference to some pleathers.

I don't know how they measure with that headphones and compared to original pads. Probably it's not too far away. You may even get more bass but hope not because that headphone has elevated subbass. I don't own HD662-EVO and it may be looser fit. If it's too loose 105mm may be better. Difference was 1.5 dB to 110mm pads. Not that big but I got more impact and volume.

Chinese 'replacement' pads can be a hit or miss. Most of the 'K240' replacements I bought weren't really good replacements at all and changed the sound too much.

If you order from brainwavz it's more expensive but atleast quality is quaranteed. I have bought two pairs of 105mm velours. First was bad and second good. And another seller that I linked seems to sell good 110mm velour pads also.

Brainwavz pads indeed are very good and usually very comfy as well.

I wanted to buy Brainwavz pads, but could not find suitable ones for this model. Can someone advise Brainwavz pads for this model of headphones? Maybe I'll buy them for the experiment . Can anyone know how to make your pads?

Does anyone find the 4 KHz ringing apparent, audible during their listening sessions with the modded HD662-EVO? I ask because I have a friend who’s been on the fence about buying one for the last year. Personally, I don’t notice it myself.
How does this headphone compare in sound to a AKG K553 and Focal Clear (2 headphones my friend has)?
I’m selling him one of my modded pairs. For the inner baffles, I used the felts (cut into 2 more/less equal halves) covering the drivers. It seems to tame the bass well.
