Thank you Javier and Frans.
I have done a good bit of listening at 20bit 192KHz with HQPlayer on the Mac and 192KHz Foobar on the Win 10 laptop. I quit listening at 44.1 very quickly so I apparently like upsampling somewhere in the chain.
My initial perceptions are that I like HQPlayer somewhat more. I'm not sure I would pay $150 for it, however, I haven't ruled it out. I'll just have to do a bit more comparing. I also tried DSD128 on Foobar but didn't notice any difference from 192KHz.
For my tastes the AD1862 pairs well with the K812. I believe it may tone it down just a smidge. Can't say much about how it pairs with the LCD-3. Since I received the K812 I rarely listen to the LCD-3. I may sell them and buy and HD800 which I suspect may also pair well with the AD1862.
I have also done a bit of comparison between the AD1862 and the Buffalo III. I could be happy with either but I believe the Buffalo is a somewhat more refined. It should be at twice the price.
I started thinking that the AD1862 is probably a good deal at the price (around $400 total), however, it requires three power supplies and three transformers and there are other DIYINHK DACs (ES9018K2M for instance) that may be even a better deal.
One of the benefits of this AD1862 setup is that I can plug in quite a few different DAC boards with these power supplies. I might have to change a transformer or two but they are quite inexpensive.
The Soekris Rev3 is available over here now but I haven't placed an order yet. I'll be quite busy for the next couple of months so I may wait until the summer and try it then.
I tried the LED on both the 3.3v and the 12V power supplies and it works fine with either.
