Seems that quite a few have a 'hairy' problem then? I've not had it with my Portapro. I guess that hairs push through the padding?

Is that the Grado you tried on Joe? Big bass roll off on them and also a big treble peak, which you are actually hearing on those tests? You might be hearing further up because the Grados do play loud up there somewhere!! Yes, this is with the Grado. I'm suspecting the treble peak may be giving me an inflated opinion of my hearing on the upper end. Where I do actually hear the 16k tone, it is likely being reproduced at a higher level than the majority of the tones. I'd guess if it were played back at the same moderate level, I might only hear to 15k. Time (and better headphones) may tell, someday. The sub-bass is actually down there, but real recessed. I can hear it starting to roll in at about 15hz, but only if the overall level is played at a louder volume. At a "comfortable" volume, it comes in at about 25hz. Not quite as bad as I was expecting. I just wish they had a slower full sweep with the frequencies announced so I can know more what's going on with the peaks. But, to be honest, it's not a big deal, as most of us already know the inherent traits of the Grado lineup.

Can't hear a thing over 14kHz but that's the same as last time I did this test, so at least things haven't worsened I suppose. Sub bass I hear kick in somewhere between 10 and 20Hz. I'm using the Fostex though so perhaps my fillings rattling are just making me think I hear it

Hah! Never mind... I'm a dope! I just revisited FR graphs of the SR80, which reminded me that all the treble peaks happen below 10k. By the time 15k rolls around, they drop like a brick by anywhere from 20-30dB, depending on whose measurements you use.
