I visited a Norwich store today and had a pair of MA100's FORCED on me. What could I say .... thank you very much.
When I see headphones at such a cheap price, I feel thankful that they actually play something that's recognisable as music.
It's cheap as chips and the build is ..... cheap. It's not uncomfortable and is an open headphone. The drivers are heavily angled backwards and when I saw that, I must admit, I did think why on earth would people go to the bother on a cheap headphone.
40mm drivers and 40 ohms impedance. Supposedly 12 - 22KHz.
I was quite impressed with the sound and when I got home, I checked with Golden Ears:

Then I compared with something at the same price:
en.goldenears.net/4251
Looking at the FR, the Superlux looks sharp at the top and the Sony, quite restrained with a strong roll away after 5KHz.
The funny thing is, the sound doesn't sound rolled away. Mine sounds quite toppy and yet the graph suggests a 'restrained' top end. It has more top edge than the PX100 which is the only one I can compare it with being away from home.
What is also surprising about such a cheap headphone is the timbre - it doesn't seem to have a strong colouration and in fact is more open sounding than the PX100.
The other part of those graphs that is surprising is that the Superlux has quite a bit of ringing going on in the waterfall charts and this Sony as less.
The sound is clean and sharp. Maybe even 'minty'. ;D It is surprising how good such a cheap headphone can sound.
For me, a little too sharp in the treble but very pleasant. So if you want a cheap headphone to give to kids as a present, this looks pretty good to me.
They seem to have skimped on the build rather than the drivers!!
