Gotcha. Sounds a bit of a faff!
Surprised that resistance might be a factor though. I saw a figure of 0.8 Ohm (quite low I think?) quoted on HF for the V-Moda 1.8m audio only cable. According to the poster that info came direct from V-Moda.
Pity you can't find the cable you need in the UK. Might not be any better than what you have but I know if I was in your shoes I'd likely want to give it a try all the same.

I'll find one eventually, Mark. The resistance thing - I haven't a clue what they're describing. I'd like to get the control out of the line since they can have an effect and have each cup wired separately. I think that it's something to do with the wire being fed from one ear and going over your head. There must be a gremlin slowing it down!!!!!!!

Found one on EBay. Around £12. It has to come from USA though.

Hi, As for my experience I've made two custom HP cables - one from Canare L-4E6S mike cable and other from Sommer Sc-Cource MkII HighFlex one . These cable are really budget ones widely used in different sound studios . As I know all Canare cables are fabricating in Japan not in China so you don't need to be concerned about quality of metal at least. Sommer is a German company . I suppose that more appropriate way is to buy cables in stores connected with professional sound equipment . You don't need to buy some custom made single core silver cables in nice transparent teflon tube or some one processed by deep freezing as there are a lot of ways to get your hard earned dough . I suppose that if You don't need really to replace your original HP cable you should better not to play with custom cables as these games are really unpredictable or say better give some strange results. If your original HP cable was broken ( chewed by pet or got really old and just fallen to pieces ) it's a one and right way to get involved in this games .... In all other cases ( pure curiosity ) one and the only way is to leave your original cable as it is. The active filter Kameleon proposed by Frans gives predictable results but changing HP cable with custom one couldn't guarantee adequate outcome. Just be informed. There are some other well known companies making professional grade mike cables such as Mogami ( Japan , 2534 mike cable ) and Klotz ( Germany ) . That's a really infinite subject deserved a lot of flood

My experience with expensive cables is very mundane. I really had a problem hearing any differences. I had two hd650s side by side. One stock and one with a very expensive cable. They were both attached to an amp with more than one headphone output, so I could flip from one to the other.
To me, nothing. I'd wasted a lot of money. In fact, I could hear no difference between the thinner hd600 lead and standard lead. I prefer the hd600 one because it's thinner and lighter and has a mini plug and converter on the end.
I really don't get hung up with cables and would certainly not spend big money on them. The one I'm getting for the Vmoda is bad enough at £12!!
I just want to test for differences between one sided stereo feed and two sides separated. Some have claimed that there are differences, but personally, I'm very skip tidal about it!!

Ian, I've recabled my old AKG K601 cans and replaced one side input signal scheme ( OSISS ) with two sides . I used external sockets , I couldn't say that result I got was aesthetically pleasant but I didn't observe great difference neither between the one side original cable nor my custom ones may be some small nuances. Original OSISS proposed by AKG was more than adequate I know some persons purchased Audez LCD who really got hung up with endless custom cable manufacturing process ; different materials , connectors, different braiding schemes . I tested such two relatively expensive custom cables with my K601 and noticed real difference. Tweaking hardly my X-Cans I attained more predictable result. Some phones have no external connectors to easy replace old cables with new custom ones so you need to partially disassemble cans and solder new cable either directly to old contact place or solder external sockets to small rest of the old wires you left as more safe way. Almost all expensive gears provide external connectors ( not sure about TH900 ).

I'll have a chance to compare soon, although probably a bit of a wait from the USA. I'm kicking myself since I could have picked something up while I was over there!!
