I must chime in. I have not found any B&W headphones worth the price. TBH I just don't like any of the models. Of course it's my opinion. If you like them good. They just don't do it for me.
There is quite some following for the P3 and P5 which I don't really get.
Preference perhaps.. just like the Nighthawk and Grados ?
Didn't like care for the P3 and P5, the P7 was almost O.K. and could see people liking it.
The P9, however, is more expensive and sounds quite honky but they finally got the treble 'right' in that one.
Still sounds poor due to the 'honk'.
Indeed not worth the money.
Heard the Obravo AMT as well and the Elear.
Obravo is MIDS only that are shouted in your ears.
The Elear... what can I say ?
Tyll must have hearing damage galore if he likes this and the MSR7 ?
Damn... that Elear is 'sharp' in the treble.
Stock HD800 lovers may like it though ?
It has better bass extension than HD800 but way too sharp treble.
Nope nowhere near HD800 territory.
They also had the Utopia and the new Jacklin Float ! but didn't listen... why ? it was at a small exhibit and was too noisy.
Will listen to the Utopia and Elear again within a few weeks in a quiet surrounding.
Also heard the HD630VB, HD800S and PXC550 (sennheiser was there too) which is a BT noise cancelling.
They promised to send me one for testing so I hope they do.
That one has digital noise cancelling and has sound processing on board.
Sounded really good... I was quite surprised hearing that quality from BT !
The HD630 is also a good but bulky and ugly headphone. The bass function is great.
VERY easy to add some bass or remove it when listening to random tracks.
In the 'neutral' setting it sounds actually neutral to me.
The HD800 and HD800S sound more similar than different.
The 'missing' sharpish edge the HD800 shows is not there on the HD800.
Didn't feel it had more or different lows but possibly the lack of the treble peak gives the impression the bass is relatively louder ?
Would have to measure one to be sure.
Heard a few MEZE 99's and feel they are too bassy and treble quality is so-so.
The only positive surprise was the M&D MH40.
The MH30 is uncomfortable on-ear sounding poor as on top of that.
The MH40 actually sounded quite nice. Tastefully boosted bass (HD662-EVO kind) but sometimes sounding a bit too 'thick' and bleeding in the mids.
Bass shy pop recordings sounded good though !
The mids and treble were excellent on the MH40.
Wouldn't buy it for the looks and price though ... and the 'bloom' it has on better recordings.
Close to the P7 ... but then a more balanced one with better highs.
