I have no idea what the final version is going to look like and if it is going to have more than one output.
The active filter box (AFAIK it's in the fridge untill Jeremy has all his other projects finished) is going to be put between the power supply and Ember (or other amp) anyway.

Luckily I have two weeks off over Christmas vacation here in the states. I will be hitting several projects very hard and aim to complete the linear.
If there is say 10 people that would like an adapter to run 6sn7 tubes in Ember, I will design them up and have them built. Cost would be $20-$25
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the interest!

Will definitely take a 6SN7 adapter for the Ember. Will the linear power supply be available as a kit?

If not, I would like to be an early adopter. If it would simplify the issue and get it to me sooner I could easily run down and pick it up.

Sounds good guys - I will cook one up by the end of the month and hope just enough sell to pay for the PCB's and parts haha! On the linear, I may sell it as a kit... still working that out. It would have a lot of "don't fry yourself" warnings

Can anyone tell me how the Ember compares to the O2? I'm using HD 650's exclusively as nothing I've heard matches them. I'm scared that valves will alter the sound too much.

O2 sounds edgier. Not as rounded and comparatively 'clinical'.
Hd650 sounds good with a valve amp.

That's what I was expecting someone to say. I just don't want to lose the very things I like about the 650 in the first place, namely the smoothness and effortlessness. Everyone on Head-Fi always talks about the Bottlehead Crack but I don't really think I have the skills to build it myself and let's be honest, the Ember is a sexy beast!

This is an earlier quote from Solderdude..."The Polaris is sort-off in between between Ember and solidstate. It has a 'hint' of tubeness but not exactly the same.
The 'crack' amp is even 'more' tubey and doesn't have the power nor flexibility the Ember has and is really only suited for high impedance headphones. The 'speedball' seems almost obligatory. It 'warms' the HD650 about the same as the Ember does on high output R setting so it does not make it sound 'tighter' in any case.
If you prefer the HD650 on low output R setting over high output R and still want it less 'warm' you could consider Polaris (you could ask if you can audition it). If you want more warmth than Ember at high output R the crack might be the amp of choice."
I have the 650's as well and from my experiences with the Ember it makes the 650's better, I sometimes listen louder than a I should, and it just makes the music, how can I say it, more full, open and inviting. It isn't just louder, there is just so much more of it. The 650's really are a pleasure to listen to, with all kinds of music, and I do. I had considered the crack before I bought the Ember and so glad I did. Jeremy and Solderdude are very knowledgable, helpful and are responsive to questions, whether about the Ember or other amps. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the difference between the O2 and the Ember. Nothing against the O2, I considered that as well but wanted the tube sound I remember when I started this journey back in the 1960's. I am looking forward to Jeremy making some adapters available so we can try the 6SN7 tubes as well. See you on the Headfi 650 forum's!

I was actually reading up on the Polaris last night. I must admit I'm kinda cynical about valve amps in general. The HD 650's are already fairly warm sounding so going with valves seems a bit like over-egging the pudding, so to speak. I don't know. One of these days I'll hear a valve amp and either become a zealot or denounce them forever.
