i have a question.... I decided to connect my hifiman 400 to the headphone out of my Monsoon mm 2000 powered speakers... The Ember is only pre amp in the chain.... The sound is better more bass, better higher frequencies, better soundstage than on the Ember headphone out.... But without the Ember preamplification (tube6ns7) the sound is not comparable.... My question: is the sound of the tube more directly felt with the pre/out function than with the headphone /out on the Ember ? P.S. The ember is very important for this pre amp function with my speakers... the effect of the Ember on my speakers is remarkable...now i watch the same effect with my headphone directly connected to the amp of the monsoon.... The 'tube effect' depends on the output amplitude of the Ember. When used as a pre-amp and the volume control of the Ember is up higher than it would when a headphone is connected directly you will get more 'tube sound'. Also when using a higher output R setting with the HE400 you should get more 'tube sound' than on low output R setting. It just won't play as loud on high/med output R compared to low output R

The volume on the Ember is effectively higher than on my amp control now and this is like you said...What a Marvel, now i wait for my new tube (7193 with adapter) and i understand that the Ember design is created to amplify and made easy the use of a triode tube for maximizing the audio result.... For the price i think that its difficult to made that better than your design.... The final result is that the Ember transform for the best my headphone listening with any headphone and with my planars speakers too....Thank to you and Jeremy

Got a good laugh reading about these idiots discussing their 5K headphone system. They are missing something, like an Ember and 650 phones.......; This is the audioasylum.com link

Lol, that's madness eh? Imagine paying over that much money for a CD transport. Wait 'til he discovers computers!

That is interesting but I'd need to hear it for myself to really believe it can work. I just don't see how it's possible with just two drivers (left & right). Have you tried anything like this yourself?

Did you try this link........http://listen.dts.com/pages/headphone-x OK, I tried it but I'm still not convinced. Maybe the HD 650's aren't ideal for this type of thing or maybe I'm just deaf. It's a shame the only real examples they give are two conventional songs rather than a set-piece video. Why would they do that? I fear it's just another gimmick. The thing is I don't really watch blockbuster type movies and stereo is more than good enough for my music in my opinion. What do you think?

I have a 7.1 setup for music and videos but usually listen to music in stereo, sounds better to me. Movies 7.1 is fine. Most of my listening is with headphones now, the Ember and 650's. Just got my cnc top and bottom plates and a knob like the one you have. Using the Ken Rad vt231 not only sounds great but with the blacked out tube, looks really nice as well. The two KenRad 7193's will be here tomorrow from Germany, will put the adapter back on and see what it is like with the matched set of 7193's.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to get another opinion on the twin-tube approach. I had settled on my GE VT-231 as the perfect pairing for the 650's but I found that when I upgraded to a silver interconnect from DAC to amp the sound lost a bit of the warmth that I initially bought the Ember for. So now I'm using the Sylvania Chrome Dome again and the warmth is back and without sacrificing the enhanced detail the switch to silver cable brought.
Of course, this is all subject to change based on nothing more than a whim. I like rolling from time to time.

Finally got around to purchasing the cnc top and bottom plates. The more I see it the better it looks. I thought I might miss the plexiglass top plate, but now think this is how it should look. With the Ken Rad 6SN7 VT231 tube (er a Valve)installed, it looks fabulous! Should not have waited so long. 7193's will be here today, looking forward to trying these, will update later.

Looks really good musicmanThe metal chassis have more height related to acrylic? I don't know if has been covered but I want to know what exactly input capacitors do and how they alter the sound bypassing it. Thanks!
