I'm looking for a magnifying glass to help with soldering small parts. I don't have room to store or set up a large microscope (and don't really want to spend that much money either). So I'm looking for one of those movable magnifying glasses, with built-in lighting if possible: - compact, not as large as a microscope - movable - so not attached to the bench (not even if clamped on the edge), and easy to set up - if possible built-in LED lighting Something like this: carsonHowever, that one has a lot of kit attached to it that I rather not have. Just the foot with glass and lamp. I did at one time own one of those cheapo 'third hands' with an attached magnifying glass. A mini version of what Carson is offering in that sales vid. It was no good. The Carson is much better from what I can see as far as size, stability and usability is concerned. Now finding one is more difficult. The stores I visited all offer variants of this kind: desklamp - and I don't want one that is attached. Are you using something similar to what I'm looking for? Please share your experiences and where I can find one! Thanks.

I read some reviews on those cheap chinese headband glasses, they weren't too positive. They pointed me to Optivisor ones, much more expensive though. This would be more to my liking, but shipping and import to Europe is too expensive, I need a EU dealer: www.fdjtool.com/ProductInfo/LM1300.aspxStill, I found the stuff you mentioned for 13 EUR on Amazon.de, so next order there I'll add them, test them, ...and toss them I expect

Just bought this one: www.ebay.nl/itm/310695632607?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITI don't expect cracking optics but suppose it will work. The real ones are 5 to 6 times more expensive. I have a very thick and heavy Russian 'thing' but it falls off my head when leaning over. If this works well for me but want better optics I may eventually buy a decent one. Most of the fiddly stuff I do at work and have a decent magnifying glass + lamp there.

Writing here since I have similar needs myself. Frans, were you successfull using this kind of head-magnifiers or would you advise looking for a common tabletop magnifying lamp? There are also monocular magnifiers but most of the time these are unconfortable.

It seems to be well made despite the cost! Do you have a link?
