Gonna be a nice way to start the new year Maybe a nice start to the year...but if you purchase from thomman be aware that the phones will only playback Wagner operas. It's a good thing the record labels didn't extend DRM right to driver - imagine having a different set of phone for every artist? Ok, us phone phreaks would like that, but others...not so much.

I'm starting to thinking about the mods needed for the 688. I have found around some 2mm thick dens felt sell as a material for ***ing. It's the type of material needed for tame the reflections inside the cups ? The wool advised need to be placed and fixed somewhere with something, like double sided tape ? EDIT: why the censorship ? I was saying:

I was saying: Censorship is because this is a polite, family-oriented site for old guys. Or something... "material for ***ing"? Curious what that other task might be... If there's a polite say to say it..

Adding another question for Solderdude, it's possible to have a picture of the amount of wool you have put in them ? There's none in the PDF.

Thanks. So it's all over the place, i wasn't sure about that.
There no harm on use double tape for fix it, where is no felt, or that may cause some strange reflection and it's better to just leave it loose ?

Using medical/surgical cotton wool can be also good ? I ask because it's easier to find.

cotton is way too dense. Either use real sheep wool or fiberfilling such as used in pillows. It isn't much wool. certainly not densely packed. Too much wool and you loose the (subbass) and bass sounds a bit congested and pinched-off. Too little wool and the bass is overblown and fat.
Don't over-tighten the 4 screws when experimenting. When tightened too much each time the thread will be gone.

They are out now, on Thomann. Noticed as well, but then it changed back to "available in 2-5 days". Ordered anyway. (glad to know i'm not the only one checking the page regularly)

I still see them as available in 2-5 days. Doesn't matter, been waiting for a year...what's a few more days? I'm curious if there are any changes compared to the prototype.

I was telling about the order status, not 688's page, that is returned to 2-5 days. Anyway, i agree. Let's just hope that the stock 688 is really the same as the proto, our hype is real
