Hello chaps & chapesses, Hope we are all well! I'm not sure if there's a thread for this, and if there is it's buried I was just wondering what everyone does in their spare time? Other than audio related stuff! I tend to flit between hobbies quite often, and even though it's a terrible habit, tend to move on to something else when the next 'big step' (improving gear, investing heavily in equipment) requires a big financial step. I've recently stopped target shooting for this reason - I just can't justify the outlay on a gun, cabinet, firearms cert, ammo, safe, installation etc. and I'd reached the stage where that was the only step that would see an improvement I also play video games (mostly PC), and am resisting the urge to upgrade components there too... Why must everything be so new and shiny! So, what does everyone do? And any ideas for cheap hobbies that I can try next Cheers folks, hope to hear back from a few of you! Joe.

I enjoy making films and flying model RC helicopters and quads. Also enjoy gardening a lot and grow stuff from seed. Currently growing a lemon and a couple of orange trees plus a load of chilli plants which I dry and use through the Winter.

I recently got a Hubsan X4 as a gift Ian, been trying to learn how to fly it indoors! Only crashed it about 3 times... Which chili plants do you recommend for drying? I had some last year but I think the chili's were a bit 'fleshy' to dry & keep.

The Hudsans are lovely little flyers. You know, flat out, they do 20mph!! That's fast for a mini Quad. Flying indoors is a bit difficult because there are lots of things to hit!! I prefer outside; even in a slight wind. I have three of them.
I only dry small chillis. I'm not sure of their names because the one that I grew last year was given to me and I saved loads of seeds for this year. They've just gone in now in an incubator. The other one that I got was the result of a nice lady in a shop who picked a couple of chillis for me from a plant that they were selling in the garden centre. I dried them and saved the seeds for this year. They've started to grow now. They are a thin, but quite long chilli.
I had some monster chillis last year but they were too fat to dry out.
Generally, I put them in an airing cupboard, but this time, I just left them on a window sill to dry out. worked fine. I'll take a photo of what I've done ....
I also went with Helena to a Mexican restaurant where they give chilis away as a pressie. They've taken off as well.
So in all, I have about 50 - 60 chilli seeds planted!!

Well, the garden grows plenty of them. Especially in the grass which has become a full time job, getting the buggers out!!
I'd like to smoke the lot of 'em!!

Yeah, food gardening. Used to grow stacks of tomatoes but recent years have been full of blight so have given them up. Chilis too. 6 yrs ago or so I grew Apache F1 on window sills. Still dining on them now. Seriously. Dried them in the airing cupboard. Now stick to runner neans, mange tout, spring onions and various herbs. Used to paint /draw but not much in recent years. Used to sing in bands, gave up in 2009. But still mess about recording at home. This is me (via Soundcloud) playing around with Audacity finding out about multi tracking and so on.. Not designed to be a finished piece of work. Just having fun while other half at work. You'll notice my voice is 'shot' at the end :-) and apologies too for the rather poor MIDI backing track. tinyurl.com/hifidez

Hobbies? Dang! I don't know where to start. I dabble. If something piques my interest, I can't just read about it, I have to try it. I'm a sometimes artist, a musician, an actor; I have built an Irish bouzouki, a tube guitar amp, and a couple stomp boxes. My interest and involvement in amertuer radio comes and goes with the wind. I dabble in hobby farming and restoring old farm equipment. When I was younger, I was a distance runner and bicycle racer, and spent many summer evenings on water skis. Many summer weekends have been devoted to motorcycling. This spring, my daughter and I are going to build a couple longbows and try our hands at archery.
I guess my wife summed it up best when she said, "Joe, you're a renaissance man!" She basically meant I'm always rediscovering and redefining myself.
Or is it just adult ADHD? 😀

I really ought to get back in to chili growing this year- apparently it's a whole lot easier with a grow tent! Ours fared OK on the windowsill, but took quite a hit when the weather took a turn. marveltone , Making a longbow sounds awesome. Get some new Yew heart/sapwood - should be great! I shot longbow for 3 or 4 years when I was younger, before moving to compound. Again, something I don't have the time or money to take up and our garden isn't big enough anymore!

That looks terrific Derek. Looks like a boiler in there as well. I have a hidden square under some trees in my back garden, where I must admit, I've been tempted to put a glass house. It's protected from direct sun most of the day and also wind.
I would like to just plonk it direct onto the ground and use it for tropical plants and growing chilli quicker. I also have a lot of plans which could over winter in it.

I am a huge fan of old classic 1930's and 1940's films. Watch a lot of them and have several books on the subject. I also dabble in playing the gutair. Nothing fancy. Just good enough to have fun. Occasionally jam a little with friends. Also am a news junkie. I read three newspapers a day most days.
I've tried growing tomatoes a few times, but the weather patterns have changed since my Dad and I grew them when I was a kid. Just takes forever before I get any fruit and then not very many, so I gave up.

Good to see so many gardeners! Just last week I finished the new garden. Nothing big as it is in city - 25' x 20'. It is already warming up here in Arizona and I am a bit late on some things but working on it. My tomatoes and peppers are all started. And in the garden, I have already planted: - Sweet corn / 2 rows - Several types of onions, carrots, squash, zucchini and cucumber Some of the tomatoes and pepper starts: My boys and I also RC. We have several low cost heli's but we primarily do cars. We have quite a local race scene. He runs a 4wd truck on-road and I run a touring car in a stock 21.5 class. Here is the chassis I just finished up. One of the local on-road tracks: We also like to fish as a family. My boys and I are in process on restoring this 1983 aluminum hull 16' Gregor V-bottom. Hopefully will be done in the next few months.

I'd love a boat to go out fishing.
