Just had a listen to two of the tracks from the album and they are indeed a lot sharper. Curious that the left right staging on the track I heard has been retained although vocals are firmly in the middle. Clarity is excellent and it hits harder. Very clear bass and well defined. It sounds so unlike a modern bass too.
It's out in a couple of days and is well worth a listen.

How are dynamics? Is it another loudness war victim?

From the sample, it seemed ok actually. My immediate impression was that the bass had been brought forward and there was a slightly better sense of clarity in what was going on.
It wasn't a hi res copy. Be lovely if one is a available.

Yes, the package contains the music in 24/96 format. I had pre-ordered through Amazon and it should arrive tomorrow, Friday. With luck.
I heard Giles Martin promoting it on the radio and the extracts they played sounded really good. One thing, as was explained, is that the drums can be more prominent now as they are not having to consider controlling the levels for vinyl playbeck. Having said that, they are issuing the remaster on vinyl!
Now, do I still have my DVD audio ripping software? Haven't needed it in ages.
Why on earth did they think a 5.1 surround version was important?

Does the 24/96 version only come bundled with the super deluxe boxset for £110? Can't see it listed on any of the usual hi-res download places e.g HD Tracks & Qobuz.
Edit: just noticed that 6 of the Deluxe Edition tracks (16/44) are available to stream on Tidal so will give them a listen later. Hopefully that means they'll have the full album available from tomorrow. Would happily pay for a d/l of the 24/96 version if they make it available but no need for physical media.

My interpretation is that the only way to get the 24/96 is to buy the 6 disc set. But I may be wrong.the six disc set includes a DVD with 5.1 and hi-res stereo, plus a bluray with 5.1 and hi-res stereo. I's rather have just a hi-res download. But my wife said I could treat myself to the boxed set. Which is nice :-) I'll report back tomorrow sfter postie has been.

Oh, if I was told I could treat myself I wouldn't complain. Does look like a very nice set. But with most hi-res material available as a download it seems very odd to only have it available on a DVD / bluray as part of a boxset. I wonder how many people actually use DVD or BR for music listening Suspect it'll be made more readily available a month or two down the line and they're restricting things to try and bump up sales of the boxset. The sort of cynical decision a record company would make... Will be interested to hear your impressions when it arrives Derek. Does look lovely and plenty of 'new' material to listen to

Ouch this is expensive: www.amazon.co.uk/Peppers-Version-4SHM-CD-Blu-ray-Limited/dp/B06Y2GNLGM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1495705141&sr=8-2&keywords=sgt+peppers+deluxeMuch better to buy direct from Amazon Japan. £120 cheaper after factoring in shipping & import duty. Comes on SHM-CD discs which appears to be a bit of a gimmick with little or no real world improvements. One of the things that people do seem to like Japanese CDs (redbook or SHM-CD) for is that in some cases the DR isn't squished within an inch of its life as the Japanese don't buy into the loudness wars nonsense so much. --- The drums definitely have more weight to them. Comparing LSD (remix) against LSD on the previous version of Sgt Peppers (re-mastered - 2015?) and it's a huge improvement. Ringo no longer sounds like he is hitting wet paper bags. There's another version of LSD on the 2 disc edition (and boxset) called Take 1. It's excellent. Has a nice live 'one take' feel. Kick drum has a nice thump to it.

Thing is, the work is done, and it has been mixed in hi res and then they down sample for a cheap download or cd but want to charge a massive price for high resolution which is how it's been done anyway!! Very naughty really. Majority will buy a cd so they won't get a hi res version. The 6 box set looks luxurious but the price makes it really expensive for most people. Even the cd is a bit higher ... www.amazon.co.uk/Sgt-Peppers-Lonely-Hearts-Club/dp/B06X6MJGB7/ref=sr_tnr_p_1_music_1_twi_aud_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1495707402&sr=8-1&keywords=sgt+peppers

You would think so Ian!!
It seems a bonkers decision tbh. I can see the appeal of boxsets and why people enjoying something more tangible but there is no reason for them to make the hi-res version of the album exclusive to that version. Outtakes, a booklet with some insight into the recording, posters etc. etc. make sense but not the album itself!! Personally I've gone entirely digital so this looks like it was conceived by someone who thinks its still the year 2000!!
Who knows. Maybe they figure that people who buy hi-res material have more money than sense and will shell out £110 anyway. Then they can sell a download version to those who didn't bite first time round?

Exactly. Big opportunity to make money on nostalgia. It probably wouldn't be that attractive to younger people so they're going for older people who might have more money.
Which reminds me, the Star Trek series is another example!!! Except low res ........
Can't get them cheaper either.
It annoys me really because the money has been invested. The recording have been done so it was a remaster which would probably have been done digitally in very hi res in any case. You'd think they'd want to attract more buyers rather than sting a few. Really poor.
It's stuff like this that strengthens the case for pirating. How many can afford £200 for Sgt Peppers in different guises and they channel you into it by not making the stuff available singly.
What next ... Michael Jackson remastered? Market testing, I bet.

Absolutely. They understand that nostalgia is a powerful thing for fans and see it like shooting fish in a barrel. The record companies are the first to complain that piracy is killing the music industry. They may have a point but when they make it so bloody difficult / expensive they surely have to accept a degree of culpability for their own part in things. Personally I can't wait for the Thriller 40th Anniversary super mega boxset planned for 2022 - take my money now!!!

Exactly Mark. An album that has already been recorded and made its money, resurrected in high density at that price? There is a very strong case for piracy thanks to them..... and these rip off hi def streaming services. They will kill the serious industry ultimately. Thriller could be the ultimate insult. Hi res Audio. Cleaned up and enhanced video. Outages and demos. Michael Jackson interviews. What .... £300 next? Seems the industry is following the rip off headphone route.

I was annoyed when the Beatles 2009 remaster wasn't published in hi-res. Instead we had that strange 24/44 release on the USB stick.
