Thanks Javier. Seems this is how it was intended to sound all along. It has always been an album that grabs you right from the start. The DR levels are part of that. I definitely prefer the new mix on speakers. Gives the music some breathing room. In the end it's how the music sounds and how it makes you feel. After all these years of listening to this album, I didn't think these songs could still have an emotional impact on me anymore. But with this re-mix they do. The vocals in particular are more present. You feel the emotion in their singing. I can hear Paul rolling his r's in places and you can hear the hard t's clearly now. 50 years, and we are still talking about this album. Pretty amazing. Edit: Switched back to the amp I was listening to (too late) last night, uh morning... and I guess after listening for most of the day on speakers then after my wife went to bed headphones.....well, I seemed to have cranked it up a bit. Quite a bit. To be honest quite a bit over-the-top. Surprised my ears weren't ringing. Back to reasonable volume and it sounds great on all my headphones. Been reading the discussion over at Steve Hoffman. Lots of opinion about the DR. Most like the re-mix. Some hung up on the DR, but most when they have a listen are having the same reaction. They love it. Could it have been made a little quieter? Yes. But would it be faithful to the mono? Maybe not. Has me re-thinking my views on DR. From the graph I would guess I would find this unlistenable as I am sensitive to too much limiting/compression. But not here. Does anyone have the LP's yet? Keep those volume knobs under control mates. This one is too easy to get carried away!

I've heard the hi res version now Ron, and comparing with what I had, there is possibly a touch of extra clarity. What is worrying is that in both cases, the peaks go very slightly into the clipping area and the peaks of the high's are cut off. It's been offloaded a bit too hot. That may be to try and make it seem louder but there is quite a bit of compression there too; at least it looks like it looking at the files close up.
So there is compression and a touch of peaking on all tracks. Mr Kite seems the worst in that respect.

I am glad you can hear a difference between the two. I never know when the placebo effect is acting on me. Yes the graphs are disturbing, but I only hear it when I really try, or when I stupidly crank up my amp too loud. I keep going back to the original mono mix. The new re-mix is like the mono unleashed. Which I think was the point. I'd almost bet that EMI has a plans to release a quieter version for audiophiles at premium price. Once they see the sales of this re-issue, they won't be able to resist. Make everyone happy and make more money from the cash cow that is The Beatles. Wow! I never heard a cork popping on Lovely Rita before!

Brick walling music really p*sses me off when they have 96dB worth of range on regular CDs and up to 144dB in 24bit available. Why on earth do they insist on only use the upper 8 or 9dBs? ?? With technology availble today it'll be so F'ing easy to compress sound in realtime on a player/device to suit taste or ambient conditions... Even a car sterero, DAP or a mobile phone have power enough to do it. So enfuriating I've now only buy 2nd hand CDs from the 80s or early 90s, they are cheaper and sound way better most of the time.

Madrigal music is playing - Voices can faintly be heard, "Please leave this patient undisturbed."

Ripped from Bluray, 24/96. Entire album as one track. Derek, the graph from Lovely Rita Meter Maid is quite respectful.

Wow! I never heard a cork popping on Lovely Rita before! I have just had another listen to that track Ron and I definitely heard a cork popping when they sing "had a laugh and over dinner" - I too have never heard that before Yes defiinetly a BETTER version

Slightly more detail to the sound of it in this new version.

There is so much going on in the mix it just passed me by. And made me cry. OK. I was in idiot mode last night. I was using Foobar last night. Forgot I had the equalizer on with THE BASS boosted. So ignore my headphone comments before. My apologies.

I wonder whether a great deal of it was there originally, so it can't be undone? They weren't that great on the original, but the versions just released have had their tops clipped, robbing us of a few db's. I don't understand why he'd lower the dynamic range either, and as you say, it's dead easy to even do on the fly, Javier. Great pity because the clarity is really good. Not sure what they did in the late 60's since the destination was lp with dreaded surface noise etc.

I thought so .... the 97 version has the spikes in their entirety and the new one has them clipped off. It's been rendered slightly too loud.

FWTW. I used the peak meter on FB2K. I compared the 2009 to the remix. They hit almost the same peaks on both. Hitting 0dB on occasion. I have to agree. A little too hot. I read that they admit they added some light limiting. Was really hoping they would use the vinyl mastering for the DVD/BD. Great remix. Hope they do a remaster and bring it down a notch. I might just go for the vinyl. Anyone heard it yet? I have been hearing positive comments.

I agree Javier. I usually buy the older CD's too. We had a great used music store up until a few weeks ago. They had to close down. But I have a lot of 80's and 90's CD's from there and most sound better than the modern remasters. Maybe EMI should consult with Steven Wilson the next time. He would never have mastered the remix this high. At least we know the remix is great, so this is a problem they can fix.
