Did you get the new cable yet Frans? I have been trying to find good plugs though I'm happy with my PTFE-modded cable I just like nice stuff. I've come across this goo.gl/qjhqbm and I'm wondering if they are genuine Sennheiser and if that is the price for a pair or each. I'm going to email them tonight. If it's per pair I'll get them if not I might get Furutech for the bit extra cost. I don't trust any of the other makers to be as tight a fit as Senn. I have removed the 3.5mm angled connector and put a silicone sleeve around the cable. Then soldered a cheap Conrad 6.3mm TRS jack on it. That plug looks very nice and is cheap as dirt. Put a rubber tule in it (is from a fiber-optic connector) otherwise it looks a bit strange. Works well and microphony is low. 1.4m is perfect for me. The connector sits a bit 'sloppy' and you can wiggle it a bit but does not fall out nor is the contact intermittend. It's just the metal part.

neat job. although the stock cable is not quite the "skipping rope" of the lcd2 stock cable, i have still managed to trip on it and pull the hd800 off the desk. they dont make quite the thud that the audeze's did , when hitting the deck.

That's a great job, as usual, Frans.
I actually have decided, for now anyway, not to do anything more with my cable.
I'm really impressed with the (apparent ?) quality of the little right-angled plug
Where I use it, turning the angle to 9 o'clock directs the cable along the desk to me.
Having a bit of sense for a change!

How well does toilet paper only work for the HD800? Any attempt at using a coffee filter?

Toilet paper does not do much for the 6kHz resonance. That is the offending one. The TP does lower the 10kHz peak. That 10kHz peak, however, is responsible for the expansive sound and detail in the sound. Lowering that to 'flat' levels turns the HD800 in a 'normal' headphone. Some of that peak must remain. Using 2 layers of TP or coffee filter lowers that 10kHz peak too much. Below the effect of TP. One has to remember that this is already with Kameleon in line. As can be seen part of the elevated treble is still there. It is essential for the sound. Sennheiser kind of knows what they are doing. They overdid it a bit too much IMO. Even with the HD800S which only addresses the 6kHz somewhat. For me still not enough.

Thanks Frans! Looks like a Kameleon is the key!

Looks like Dekoni has new pads for the HD800: Dekoni Pads - FR (https://dekoniaudio.com/dekoni-audio-sennheiser-hd800-ear-pad-frequency-extravaganza/). Thoughts?

Looks like the pads shave off some of the treble only. Neither the dip nor bass roll-off is changed.
The filters can easily be changed to lessen the HF drop when one want to use Dekoni pads.
Personally the HD800 pads work just fine for me. I can see that this may not be the case for everyone though. For them the Dekoni pads may well be a good option.
