To me it does.
The LCD-4 is 'better' in some aspects and worse in others.
Bass on the AEON closed is 'better' to me, others may well like the LCD4 bass better.
The LCD4 is slightly more 'laid back' and more 'etherial' but the 'clarity' and 'attack' of the AEON is perhaps slightly better.
LCD3 might be slightly closer to AEON closed than LCD4
The weight of the AEON is better to me.
The AEON pads are a bit 'sucky' and sit very close to the ear where the LCD4 are wider and leave some room around the ear.
Might be less 'warm' to the ears (in temp).
LCD4 needs an amp or at least a capable output stage where the AEON drives well from most portable equipment already.
LCD4 is open, AEON closed is not.
LCD4 vs. AEON open is no contest.
What will be the winner is a personal issue.
Depends on available funds, comfort issues and what preferences one has.
A factor 5 in price is a lot though.
For me personally I would not consider the LCD3 and LCD4 when going 'open' but would use the HD800 (with EQ) or perhaps go for the Focal 'clear'.
That is if it had 2 similar drivers, which one only knows when measuring it.
SHould I want to go closed and portable the AEON closed is a good choice for me.
One has to realize though that price/performance ratio isn't linear.
You need to spend a lot more money to increase performance a little.
Some can not really hear substantial differences, others can.
I mean some are really happy with a cheap mediocre headphone with a lot of bass and sharp treble and would hate the HD600 or HD800 and for others it is the other way around.
So a 'best' there won't be.
Prefferred to me (or anyone else) yes...
