It's so cold, my thermometer just gave up! I know there's supposed to be some red in there somewhere.

Uh-oh...hope you have a warranty for that thermometer. Maybe bring it indoors and wrap it in a cozy blanket by the fire. Might perk up.

It perked up a tiny bit once the sun came up, but chores were still blasted cold. Unfortunately, we're in the deep freeze for the rest of the week. For now, I've got a fire in the wood stove and cozy velour ear pads on my headphones. We'll get through this!

Velour earpads and high current tubes = winter listening bliss.
Stay warm!

Been -30 in my corner of the world for the past few. Gonna stay like this till next week. My only hope is that the super-conductor effect will kick in and the electrons will flow a little easier (added bonus: I just have to toss my gear outside for some free cryo-treating)

The UK would definitely come to a halt if that happened. Never had anything like that. We go a bit crazy when it hits -3 or -4C, but Scotland is a bit different. They laugh at us!!!

That's just nuts! Bad enough here (Detroit area) yesterday with a high of 4F and windchills around -10F. Warms up a balmy 10F today with light winds.

I don't know how you deal with that kind of cold. We complain if there is ice on the cars in the morning. Oh no, it dropped below freezing last night! Better not go out today.

My policy has been that if you can look outside and actually see the air (ice-fog at -40), then its better to stay in bed

I'm about ready to set up some fans outside to blow this cold air back to Canada Hey Mr. Trev, let me know if you can feel it!
On a more serious note, it got up to 7f/-14c today. I took advantage of this little lift in temps to trek out to the wood pile and fill the wood bin in the basement before the other shoe drops this weekend. Supposed to get to -35.
It will be a good weekend to hunker down, tend the fire, and listen to music!

At least you have a dry cold. Up here on the wet coast, we had a sprinkle of decorative (wet) snow for Xmas, went to down to -5, felt like -7 with the wind chill. But then a big balmy mass of warm vacationing vapor from the Pacific rolled in and attempted to drown us again. Worst part, the local hardware store ran out of rain shovels, so have to rely on gravity and bad attitudes to move the torrential flows around. Wherever they want to go.

Only upside to what is starting to look like the start of another drought cycle. It’s dry. But we, or did get those warm “Pineapple Express” wet storms up from Hawaii. That’s when we get drenched and get local flooding. When one hooks up with a system coming down from Alaska for several days in a row is when levees start to blow out and rivers and creeks overflow. Last year was when the emergency spillway at Oroville Dam failed. People downstream, including my sis-in-law and her husband, had to evacuate for 10 days. Seems that’s been California lately. No rain, or too much too fast. In between we have fires that last months. Or a couple of earthquakes. Just in case some of you might think it is some kind of paradise. It comes with a price, like elsewhere. Not to mention the price to repair it all. But it’s my home, I’m staying. All of you stay safe and warm.
