I found this post a while ago and thought I'd start a thread here for any discussion, tips, tricks, etc. www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-super-neat-and-easy-custom-fit-earbuds/My first attempt didn't go well. The Sugru was much softer than I was expecting. That combined with the extremely thin silicone tips I was trying to fill turned things into a bit of a gong show. Thankfully I managed to get everything cleaned up for another try in the future.

@rabbit
Ian, when you got to the "impression" phase, did you keep your mouth open or would it matter in this case. How's about insertion depth? Just what ever you normally use.
Trying to find some other things that need to be repaired before I open another packet up

I opened my mouth while inserting them and then closed once they were in.
You do have to be careful not to go in too deep. I just gently pushed them in until I felt a seal forming and stopped there. That way, you can insert them deeper when they’ve cured.
I found them very effective as well.

Thanks. That was probably half my problem, jamming them in too deep (the Havi B3 have a pretty short nozzle). Have you tried removing the Sugru after it cured? I'm thinking that while I have the packet open I might as well try making pairs for all my iems, then decide if they need it or not. For the most part it doesn't matter if the tips are ruined afterwards, except for my PFE. Can't get tips for them anymore and the stock ones are really good - which probably means I really shouldn't bother Off topic (can I get banned for derailing my own thread ), we were first chatting about this mod in a Trinity thread. What happened there? The last time I checked their website it was MIA. Has TA gone TU?

This looks like a monumentally stupid idea: www.instructables.com/id/Sugru-Earbuds/ Report back and let us know how it goes Trev (you mentioned you had some excess!) Tips I can think of: - work the Sugru a little bit before rolling. Sometimes feels quite moist when it comes out of the packet (moisture leeching out?) and playing with it a little seems to make it a little more workable. - Sugru CAN stain or leave greasy marks so best to roll it on a non-porous surface you aren't precious about. I used an old dinner mat. - if you mess up a tip (and have plenty of Sugru in reserve for another attempt) it's sometimes less messy and easier to let the Sugru cure a bit. Gently prise it away from the tip in a oner, as pulling too hard can warp or tear the silicone tip. - if making tips for IEMs with removable filters or vents it's better to go easy on the Sugru (or tape over those parts) to avoid any overspill clogging things up. Partially filled tips still seem to work just as well, so long as you've used enough Sugru to plug your ear canal. I traded away the IEMs I needed the tips for so don't know how they hold up in the long term but short term they seemed alright. Worst thing for me is that when it's freezing out and you stick the IEMs in your ears after being in your pocket a while the Sugru gets really quite cold. Almost felt like I had two cold little pebbles shoved in my ears!

Read a couple things about DIY custom earmolds. I'm too much of a coward to try The tips I'm using on my Havi also work well on my Trinty Deltas. Since the delta have a much smaller housing it may be easier to do the moulding on them - assuming they can still be swapped back and forth afterwards. I'm thinking it may be a good idea to punchout a small piece of parchment to put between the tip and iem housing. One of my earlier attempts ended with the eartip sliding all the way down the nozzle and sugru-ing itself to the iem

I stopped reading the TA threads. Got absolutely tired of the lack of deliveries at one point and everyone getting angry. TA made an absolute mess of orders with loads of promises and even statements about iem’s on the way that made me no longer trust them. I got mine but I certainly wasn’t going to order anything else where other people had waited over a year for their iem. I thought that was terrible, but worse were the lies they put out.
HF seems to be full of fanboys or manufacturers. A bit like wolves and sheep. The last bit of nonsense about the Takstar headphones was dominated by some berk who took a sniff of anything not positive as a personal insult. He was so bad that a lot of people suspect that he might work for Takstar. He put me on his ‘ignore’ list because I upset him.
I don’t know why people get so uppity about headphones. There seems to be so many mini hitlers who claim to know everything about everything......
It used to matter to me though I guess, but I got to the point where those blinkered nerds no longer got to me and I saw them as a joke so I sometimes get a bit snarky with them just to upset them. That’s more amusing than arguing with a biased nerd about their current prize headphone.
Sugru does come away from earbuds and leaves no real trace. The tip can be peeled off. It is good stuff actually and is a great way of making iem tips much more secure. I kept it in my TA earbud for some time and at one time, one ear started to leak for some reason so I pulled it out. Then it was way worse without, so it does work although as Mark says, it kind of feels like putting marbles in your ears!!

I rarely visit the thread now but think there are still people who have been waiting for their orders for about 1.5 to 2 years now!!! Although the website is down Trinity still exists in some shape or form as they sporadically respond to e-mails and every once in a while the odd order drops on someone's doorstep out of the blue. Bob left the building* some time ago (*as an employee of Trinity) under an NDA to form what I believe is his own company, IMR Acoustics. Still based in the same building as Trinity and presumably with access to Trinity's e-mail mailing list (many TA customers got an e-mail from IMR when they launched). Bob did **** off an awful lot of members on HF with the misleading info on shipping etc. so time will tell if folk will forgive and forget. Much harder to regain trust than lose it I suspect. Which is a shame because in the R1 IMR seem to have made quite an innovative IEM and one that has been favourably received by those who own or have reviewed it. Still hard to believe just who quickly things went downhill because Trinity as they seemed a company with a bright future ahead of them

Last I heard about Trinity was an email stating Bob left to start his own co. I just happened to be pruning my bookmarks the other day and found Trinity's site non-existant. They went sideways pretty darn fast.
Strangely, I can't find anything that needs fixing so I might need to put my next attempt at eartips on hold. Or maybe I'll have to break something so I don't waste a bunch of unused Sugru
Any ideas on what somebody could use as a mould? I've been thinking about other uses for the Sugru. I think it could be handy for making a splitter on custom cables - if I could find a way to make it pretty. I did use the leftovers from my first packet to fix the powercable on my old laptop. It does provide a great strain relief, looks damn fuggly

You reminded me about my Sugru because I had to renew one of my earplugs today. Very quick job.
I just took some out and rolled it after warming up into a thin sausage. Pulled the earplugs fully back so that the neck was exposed. Placed the sausage of sugru gently and evenly around the inside collar and pushed the rubber back over it.
Gently placed in my ears while lifting the top flap of my ear and then let go so that my ear canal bedded down onto the rubber plugs with sugru underneath.
Very gently pulled them out and left them for a day.
Seal is perfect.
Not too much Sugru - just a thin sausage around the neck of the IEM. Gentle insertion - no force.
You’ll be amazed what shape it comes out. (Or I have alien ears)

You know, it was a great pity about Trinity because to this day, the Master is still a brilliant IEM. I refitted the Sugru because it was getting old and now the old seal is back, it stands way above most other things that I have.
The Vyrus is very good, but just not up to the Master.
Had they have been more upfront, I would have gone high end with them I think.
For me, the Master fits easily with Sugru, all thanks to Mark for pointing it out quite a while back. It goes in very gently and the seal suddenly forms and to be honest, almost as well as my old Senns that I used with customs on stage.

I can't claim the credit for that. It was actually Mr Trev that suggested I try Sugru after I'd all but given up on getting a good seal with the Master.

Was it? Well it's a great idea and makes the Masters much easier to use.

See. I'm more than just a pretty face after all I think I stumbled across the Instructable article when I was searching for ways to do DIY custom/hybrid tips. The something along the lines of what Snugs does - without having to deal with Trans-Atlantic shipping.
