Probably not too many hobby farmers on the board, but thought I'd share anyways.
Last summer, my baler broke, right in the middle of haying season. The main connecting rod that pretty much runs the entire operation broke in two. I had enough hay bales to last the winter at that point, so I just parked it and stewed over it for the winter, seeing as I don't have a shop to work in.
Today, we decided to pull things apart to see what all needed fixing. The connecting rod was deep inside the machine, so there was quite a bit of disassembly just to get to it. It was a bit challenging, actually. Fortunately, the break is pretty clean, so it will be easy to weld. We found some significant wear and tear in a few other components, as well as some bearings that were questionable.
I ordered the bearings for about $250, which isn't too bad, actually. The rest is welding, straightening, cleaning, and lubricating. With any luck, we'll get things back together next weekend.
Beats paying $95/hr shop wages.
Time to put on the headphones and relax.

I see. Gotta admit when I read the thread title, I was kind of hoping it was the punchline to some crude frat-boy joke

Sorry to disappoint. I'm not really that clever. I'm just here to round out the bottom of the curve.

No worries. At least now I know who to chat with the next time I need to repair some farm implements
