guys, i am hoping you can help shine some light on a minor niggle i have with my new kenwood headunit. i generally play my music from usb stick on this unit, but every so often , the song playing does not match the display. i started with a cheap freebie memory stick, but ditched that when i noticed the problem and bought a new one. no change. it was suggested to me that the problem may be down to the size of my flac files, so i changed to mp3 (320) and again , no change. i have updated the headunit's firmware to the latest version, no change.
i am now wondering if the problem could be down to a setting in EAC!! there seems to be a lot of options, but i have no clue what they mean. any ideas, folks?
cheers

have been in touch with kenwood about this and they suspect the program used for ripping, which is EAC in my case. can anyone recommend an alternative to EAC?

Madrigal music is playing - Voices can faintly be heard, "Please leave this patient undisturbed."

You can also use foobar to edit already ripped tracks by right clicking the track in the playlist and go to properties where you can manually edit the track. You can also convert files from one format to another - add/remove pictures etc.

early days but i think i may have sorted it. when i updated the unit's firmware, there was one vital piece of info not in the instructions. after contacting kenwood it appears you have to "factory restore" or "initialise" the unit afterwards. i have since done this and today i have not had an issue. will continue to monitor it. from next saturday i will be without the unit for a few weeks anyway, as it has to be returned to kenwood for a warranty repair. (condensation between display and protective glass). cheers guys

I spoke too soon. its been fine for a few weeks and now problem has started again. pretty sure its a tagging issue. I have re-installed eac since my w10 upgrade and will start afresh.

IIRC, way back when the Fiio X3 first came out, it had some issues with tagging. The "solution" was simply to remove all but the most basic tags (artist, track, album, etc) Personally, I use dbpoweramp for this, but mp3tag also has an automated way to remove unneeded tags. Also, one thing to check is the tag format. Depending on the age of your car stereo it may only support id3v2 (or even v1). If the music is tagged as id3v3 that would cause issues. Again mp3tag can deal with that.

Ahh, now that does seem like a corrupted file - could be others too. If you're checking out Foobar, there should be a tool to check file integrity. Sometimes it's a problem that can be repaired, but most often a re-rip the the best way to go. It also could be the USB stick is starting to develop bad cells. It happens, I just threw out a 8GB stick a couple of days ago because it was getting unusable…

Not knowing how your head unit works for browsing (using it's own database or just a file explorer) your idea of going with an "artist"/"album"/"track" is probably the safest bet. It should have you covered for both browsing methods. Album art? First you should check what the resolution of your head unit is - there's really no point in having art that is 1000x if the head unit only displays 400x. I would imagine it would be best to embed your artwork too, as opposed to using something like cover.jpg - but again it depends on the specs of the head unit.
<edit> just had a look at the Kenwood page. Nice unit, can even handle DSD. Since it has a display of 1280x720, I'd think an album art resolution of 600x600 should look pretty darn fine. Plus it should remain fairly responsive, not having to deal with excessive scaling of the artwork (one time I accidentally embedded some artwork at 3000x3000. Sweet mother, that slowed my player to a crawl)

Another quick tip… When it comes time to do the ripping, try not to use your computer for anything else - that'll make it less likely to get any sort of file corruptions during the rip or file transfer.
