This is so simple, it's ridiculous.
I find the Denon way too bass heavy, so after having a look at my T50, I decided to have a look at the Denon. On the T50, blocking the external vent gets the bass more under control.
Well, as luck would have it, the Denon also has a bass vent. However, it's under the pads. If you pull the pads off, at the top of the cup is quite a large hole. That's the bass vent; so I got some parcel tape and blocked it up.
Popped the pads back on for a listen and it's cured!! Why on earth Denon didn't block them, I'll never know. The bass is still hard hitting and deep sounding but it's not as thick so as a result, the mids come forward slightly.
This has become quite a listenable headphone now, whereas before I really had problems with that bass.
If you have the 1100, this is really worth doing and literally takes two minutes.
The really nice thing about this mod is that it's actually very subtle so there's no fundamental change to the rich Denon sound and the bass remains. It just doesn't seem as thick and clotted as it normally is when you listen to anything with lots of bass in it. The bottom end just seems to tidy up slightly and it's not as overwhelming.
Those are the best mods to me. The ones that slightly alter one area while leaving the rest intact, since basically the D1100 is not all that bad and in fact sounds like a full sized headphone (Similar to HD650)and just getting the bass to behave a little better really helps it a lot.
