The D2000 is one of my favourite headphones. It's a really entertaining listen with a crystal top and a warm bottom end that hits hard. It has quite a good FR as well. One has come up for sale on Headfi if anyone is looking for a really nice headphone that's becoming difficult to get. It's also in the UK, not USA: www.head-fi.org/t/673342/denon-d2000s-upgraded-with-d5000-cable£165. Looks like it's brand new condition too.

It's a great headphone. I still like it a lot and use it regularly.

Wonderful headphone and the only one I really regret letting go of. Bought from that seller's website a few times now and they're great. Even when I had to return some faulty HE-560's there was zero quibbles and they refunded within a day or receipt. Didn't know they sold used gear though as it's all new on the website with the exception of the odd 'open box' customer return. Watching out of curiosity too but the TH-X00 is telling me not to be a daft lad

No, they don't seal well. Loose fit on the head and no real clamping. Comfort though is excellent. I don't regard them as a closed can tbh.

I've heard them described as semi-open but semi-closed seems more apt. At least if I was comparing them so something like the Nighthawk. Isolation isn't terrible though and they do have a reasonably wide soundstage for a 'closed' headphone. Not one for noisy environments but I don't think they'd leak so much as to be annoying to those around you unless the room was quiet.

I think they hold the sound in better than they do letting external sounds in .....
So people oitside don't hear too much, but you hear them!!

So people oitside don't hear too much, but you hear them!! when i bought the d600 , isolation was an important thing for me. now circumstances have changed and its not so much of an issue. i should have really kept the modded philips i bought from Frans, but i gave them to my brother with an amp and dac. i figured the d600 was worth more to sell on, but preferred the sound of the philips , tbh. have bid on a d2000 now, btw.

Check the lead on it Simon, if you can. It's a very long lead and is cloth covered. Forgot to say, the d2000 is sharper sounding and less thick sounding than the Denon.

The lead is hard wired but the cups do come off very easily. I buffed mine to a deep gloss so it now matches my th900 but is grey. I used Displex to buff it and it came up like a mirror because I had a small scratch on one side!!

That D2K cable did my head in as it's just too long and heavy, much like the skipping rope on the TH-X00. Good to see that Fostex are finally moving towards detachable cables on their newer models.
Biggest issue I found was that the cable also started to kink quite acutely above the y-splitter. Really just through prolonged use and rolling it up nightly to store rather than any abuse on my part....admittedly I used them heavily for years and hours of use could be counted in the thousands I'd guess.
Still they worked fine when I sold them and the guy who bought them planned to recable and mod. If you were thinking of trying yourself I could ask him for some pointers and cable recommendations.
