Hello all. I have been in this hobby for 40+ years. Built a Linn Naim system in the mid 1980's. built a tube set 45 system in early 2000's. have a large vinyl collection I want to digitize. Started that ten years ago but want to refine my setup and process. Have an old pair of HD650 HPs and am waiting on a G1217 Horizon to drive them. I like the forum you have built here. Very friendly and no BS or huge egos. I look forward to learning more and perhaps I may even have something to contribute. Thanks for having this place. Chris

Welcome aboard, Chris! It's a good crew on this site. Real friendly! I think you'll like the Horizon. Frans and Jeremy make good stuff.

You're really welcome, Chris. It's just Hi-Fi so ego or one upmanship isn't really needed here. We respect the Portapro just as much as the hd800!!

And to me it really is all about the music. Thirty plus years ago I bought a graphic equalizer. A friend remarked how cool the lights looked. Unfortunately it injected seious distortion into the music. Taught me then that I buy equipment to make music, not to put on a light show. The salesman who sold me my Naim setup also used musical terms to describe the system That all made sense to me and has stuck with me. I want a piano to sound like a piano. And for Carly Simon to sound like Carly Simon. Chris

If you enjoy the sound of a headphone, then that's right for you really. I went through a long period of listening to gear and not the music. It was at that time that I went through a ton of gear with some of it way over the top really where the source wasn't up to the same standard as the other end..... so mismatches galore and then more of the same with headphones.
I've heard so many headphones now that I have kind of started to accept deficiencies and adapt unless they're really awful. The worst one I ever tried was an AT MSR7 which was truly awful. I thought my ears had gone wrong or something because they get such good reviews.
Then found out later that they were fakes!!!! I tried so hard to like them but couldn't relax with them at all. What I was doing was taking the reviews into consideration and trying my best to like them as a result. I wasn't really listening properly at all.
Now, if I can relax with the sound I'm getting, I focus much more on the music and tend not to worry so much about the headphone. I've also learned not to worry if something that I use a lot isn't reviewed particularly well. That used to bother me, but now, I don't really mind what others like or don't like.
If it suits me, then it's ok as far as I'm concerned!!!

Hello all, youngin here at only 22 but quickly being pulled into the hobby. My father is JGlatz, creator of the famous franken ember. He's helped me tinker with a small Bravo a3 headphone amp that we swapped most of the parts on. With my new OPPO PM3s coming in I felt the need for a new project. After a bit of roaming the threads I have a project polaris on the way. Hopefully (for everyone that emptied their pockets into the franken ember black hole) we dont find a way to create another monster!

Another place I have to look again. I have only the best memories of Claus. I remember that he was very busy with Hoved-Fi after he left RG.

Hi all :-) Thank you all for sharing and creating this fine forum. I have had headphones as a hobby for around 10 years now and have owned a lot of different headphones... a lot, as many of you probably have too ;-) I have just read a thread called "AKG's steel bridge signal transfering design" addressing an issue that has been with me from time to time. The answer in the thread was brilliant! Thank you for that one! What a great start for me!
