I've used both the v7506 and v6 although reports say they are basically the same headphone and the v7506 is an updated version.
I got both a while back and to be honest, I slightly preferred the v6 which is the old version. They can be had for quite a good price and the biggest annoyance is the heavy coiled lead. (For me)
The first one I heard was a 7506 and felt that it was way too heavily tilted towards the top end. To me, it sounded brittle. In fact, so brittle that I suspected that it was a copy.
I tried the v6 and found it had slightly less 'edge'. Still toppy but not quite as glassy. Maybe in my head, not certain.
The lightbulb moment for me was listening to something broadcast live on tv through the v6. I found it to be extremely revealing; especially at the price level. I could plainly hear engineer tampering which wasn't at all apparent via external speakers. I could plainly hear faders going up and down and very subtle panning adjustments going on. Also very tiny tweaks to reverb.
They are really good as monitors but I could understand people not liking them so much with music. They have a natural mid frequency response, which sounds good on head, with possibly a peak up top.
Listening to broadcast material through them however shows them to reproduce sound extremely well. Where I try many other headphones, I often get a bass bloom which is quite nasty with mens' voices in particular, but not so with the v6. It sounds quite natural - a touch off ambulance. Via Golden Ears programme, Accudio, it is brilliant so it is possible to eq this headphone to something that to me, sounds excellent.
Bass isn't really deep, but what you get is healthy.
It's an old design and has been around for quite a while, but for the kind of money it sells at, I really think it's a very good buy.
Funnily enough, Fran's Superlux filter seems to take a fraction of the 'glass' away. (That could be placebo because I know when it's in though!!)
It doesn't really seem to be mentioned that much, but it's not really too shabby.
How have you found the v7, Dave?
