right on EK
these spacers you speak of are simply cut pvc pipe (water line pipe)? and cut to 14mm width? I seem to recall that is the depth that I read 13 or 14 mm .
so there is room enough to push the driver in farther and then place the spacer ring in after it, on the outside facing earpads?
i'm debating on the spacer and or using a damping material on back of driver and open a few holes in the cloth like mesh. its hard to compare not having two but it seems it does the same thing as the spacer rings.
what to do what to do
now my main contemplation is getting full leNGTH WOOD cups or slip over cups where you still use the housing around the driver. not sure if there is a sound difference or if its just a difference in more work (re soldering and fitting drivers) or just slipping the intact driver housing into the wood slip covers.

Yes, plain old plastic water piping right on EK so there is room enough to push the driver in farther and then place the spacer ring in after it, on the outside facing earpads? Yes, no probs. right on EK and open a few holes in the cloth like mesh I think the reason I suffered very little bass loss was because I did that mod - opening the holes in the cloth at the back of the driver. I opened all the holes and there was plenty bass.

interesting. thanks for the replies EK about is 13 or 14mm depth on the spacer is that correct? holes. ... did you experiment? opening a few at a time? or just go for it and open all of them? I've been eye balling a few different wood cup options not sure which way to go. is there a sound difference between slip on cups and full cups? I would assume there is but you know what happens when you assume I've not done any soldering and see some have just a hole for the cable to enter cup (solder) and others have a ... erm notch taken out to just slide the cable in. not having soldering experience I'm leary about doing that. plus if I did go that route I would also recable them. but what cable ? evolution something or other name I recall seeing several times as pretty good and fairly cheap cost.
