Does anyone have any experience or thoughts/views on them ! I'd be using them with a "Single Power MPX" valve amp.

I'd like to try them with the Ember. I really regret selling my dt880s. I had the old and new version at one point.

I owned one for a while and thought they were great for Jazz and classical. Found them a bit bass shy and a little too enthusiastic in the treble on some recordings.
Had better sounding headphones and thought the DT990 was more 'fun' in the end so sold them. The DT880 is more realistic sounding than the DT990 and DT770.

I understand that the rarer bought/used 600 ohm version is the best to go for....so what the heck I'll go for them, my collection is still only in single figures !

Yes, the DT880-600 is the best sounding one with the smallest treble spike. It likes to be driven from high output-R amps.

It would appear as though the DT880 has had an overhaul. old DT880-250 ( Golden ears) : and new DT880-250 ( Golden Ears): As can be seen the usual critique it has received over the years about the treble peak has been addressed. That peak also made it sound 'overly detailed' so I wonder how this one sounds. Also one can see the dip that is suddenly there now, somewhat similar to the DT880-600. The peak is probably removed with either a different amount/type of front damping, by changing something in the driver or maybe both. Below the DT770 (smoothed like the GE plots otherwise the dip at 4kHz almost nulled completely) The dip on the DT880 may therefore be deeper than it would appear on the GE plot in reality.

The DT880 looks quite respectable now. I wonder when the changes happened and what stock is still out in the shops? There must have been some kind of overlap of new/old. I wouldn't mind hearing the new version but not sure what is still out there in the shops!!

I have a request. I would like to see measurements of the dt880 edition 600ohm with dekoni elite velour pads. I wonder if these pads will do wonders on the 880 as they do on the 1990. How good can the 880 get?

Don't have the DT880-600 anymore so can't check.

How good can the 880 get? Only have the DT880 Black Special Edition and measured the Elite Velour on that one compared to the original black pads and the grey pads.

They get darker with elite velours as expected.
Btw the 880 600ohm also sound ok with the "balanced" 1990 pads. These pads are a bit deeper than the grey stock pads plus you get the extra depth from the 1990 fixing rings. It adds quite a bit to the comfort.
