These are five beautiful songs about my home town that I have loved for years and years.

Deacon Blue - Raintown
Off their debut album of the same name.
I saw Deacon Blue in the late eighties in Bristol where I was posted at the time and they made me really homesick for the first time in my life. Lorraine McIntosh (married to Ricky Ross, the lead vocalist and writer) is a very underrated singer. She has an amazing voice with a great range. At live gigs she was incredible, whirling round and round, barefoot, and dancing from one side of the stage to the other for nearly two hours. Still an incredible band to see live, their gigs are like 2 hour parties, with everyone singing along to every track.
P.S. - Their drummer, Dougie Vipond has a second job as a sports reporter on the STV six o'clock news!

Hue and Cry - Mother Glasgow
Brothers Pat and Greg Kane's finest hour in my opinion.

Aztec Camera - Killermont Street
A beautiful, bitter-sweet song by Roddy Frame (an East Kilbirdy like me) referencing an old bus station in Killermont Street, hence the line "Take a trip to reprieve, every hour they leave, from Killermont Street".

The Blue Nile - Tinseltown In The Rain
One of my very favourite bands. Only ever made 4 albums since 1981. Each one a complete, perfect, gem. Paul Buchanan only has to open his mouth and I think of home. Originally signed to Linn records, they have maintained a level of recording sound quality on a par with anyone, including Yello.
