Being the old Yorkshire bargain hunter that I am (it's in the genes I'm afraid ) I could not resist when I saw some HE-400 cans at a price that was well within my budget (even though I was not looking for new cans at the time . They arrived today and the first thing I noticed was that they appeared to be almost mint, no scratches or signs of wear anywhere and both sets of pads appearing unworn - even in the original box (which did not look to be new but who cares about the box? . It did actually raise the thought in my mind that they may not even have had the recommended 100 to 150 hours continuous playing to 'burn them in'. I've just spent an hour or so listening to them and all I can say is 'WOW' - I did not think my ears were capable of hearing much improvement on my AKG K550s but they most definitely are!! I sincerely hope this does not cause a recurrence of upgraditis across the rest of my set up or these may prove not to be such a bargain after all . My source for this session was my Blackberry Playbook using Neutron player through my Kameleon amp (currently with K550 filter in place ). Tonight I will try foobar through HA10 HP amp which I have been told is a particularly good pairing - looking forward to that greatly. Dave.

got to be worth another filter now Dave? Mention of that has already been made with 'filterdude' but I'm going to have a good 'play with them first to get a 'feel' for the SQ. Dave.

Looking forward to your detailed review of the HE-400 and HA10 combination Dave, when you are feeling better. As you know, this is what I use (with a few tweaks).Highly tempted to upgrade to the HE-400i which are a radical revision.

Hi Jerry, Nice to see you around here again - settle in and make yourself at home . Things on hold a bit on that subject as my new source selector and RC volume control (from Sean) seem to give me too much gain - about 2deg turn on the vol knob has the neighbours complaining - so I need to sort out my i/c connections. That sounds daft I know but I like to keep my system as flexible as possible which means everything needs to connect to everything else (nearly ). I plan to disconnect everything and start again from scratch, i/c wise but that will not be until tomorrow at the earliest and probably later than that . We are experimenting with my med dosage so things are a bit 'up in the air' in that area but we may be moving in the right direction - been here before so not getting too excited . Dave.
