I haven't looked into replacing the cable. Have no idea how to access the cable entry part (nor did I actively look for it other than trying to pry it open) It's an anti-tangle cable and although it feels flimsy works fine and seems quite sturdy. I wouldn't replace the cable unless it is torn, broken or janked into pieces. It's just a cheap headphone ... They do have a really pleasant sound with big bass. i obviously rate them higher than you Frans ?

Perhaps ... perhaps not.
The only 2 headphones that get some headtime are HD650+Kameleon and the Philips. Mostly the Philips it plays great straight out of the X3.
As you said ... they have no right to sound this good. Not exactly neutral but very musical and... dat basssss

Much the same as me with the exceptionof the th900 which gives me good sub bass.
The Philips is slightly more closed in sounding than the hd650 Simon, but it's damned impressive. It's the only portable that I've heard that goes that low in the bass.
Oh, I forgot, I also use the hd600 for a lighter touch as well.

my d600 may be surplus to requirements now. i need to do some extended comparisons between the two, but i think i prefer the Philips.

I'm still quite fond of mine. Slightly more 'steely' treble with that big bass. I tend to use the d600 indoors with no amp and the Philips around the garden either with or without an amp. Ithe Philips is less sensitive.

Think ... modified Philips cityscape uptown.I will be modding 3 of them in the near future (one silver, one brown/black and one all black) WELLLLLLL below E 100.- More than enough bass, lovely smooth mids, no harsh treble. Closed, isolates fairly well, absolutely no closed or cuppy sound. Don't look daft on the head either.

Take my word as well as Frans that these are a good choice and I am sure Ian will also chip in here that these are class headphones for silly money. I bought a pair of modded Philips cityscape uptown from frans about 6 months ago and don't regret a single penny, they get played most nights. They have plenty of bass with good isolation and are really smooth with a decent soundstage, but they key point is they cost me around £60? I can't remember how much I exactly paid but it was somewhere near that amount. Definitely put them on your short list for a listen.

Actually, I have two. I bought one for a friend and couldn't give it to him. They are seriously good value for money, with a depth of bass that can be felt without mid bass Blooming into the mids. I can (and do) wear them virtually all day!! Very sensitive so Polaris isn't essential. Mine work beautifully with a Fiio e12a or O2. Polaris has a lot of power for them!!

Please Frans, sign me up for the full-black if it is available. Sounds like a very good alternative and I really cannot go for open back.

Please Frans, sign me up for the full-black if it is available. Sounds like a very good alternative and I really cannot go for open back. There is quite some price difference between the colours. I buy these headphones secondhand. I can buy the brown ones new as well though but with new pads and materials used the new price (without shipping) would be close to E 80.- ! The silver one will be around E 45.- without shipping costs. It doesn't have a microphone. The black/brown one (only the innerside of the headband will be brown) will be 65 Euros (wihout shipping costs). It does have a working microphone, comes with the conversion cord (for other telephone brands) and in the original box. Funnily enough still cheaper than the original price. The black ones are hard to find and even second hand are more expensive. All black one with working microphone (and grey short conversion cord), no box will be E 75.- without shipping. When more people are interested I could buy new black/brown ones and convert these. Around E 80.- without shipping.

Hi Frans, Thanks for the info!
I could do with the full-black or the brown-black. The colour combination of the silver-brown looks a bit crazy in my opinion :-P
But Frans, from your post I don't really get whether those three models that you will modify are already taken (sold) or not.
With the kids around yesterday and this morning I have not been able to read much from the modification document but it seems that it is all about the pads. Do you also do anything with the mic/remote?
EDIT: To be honest, I would prefer one without the volume control in the control "thing" on the cable. Most users seem to develop problems with that...

I still feel a bit embarrassed about it. Fiio e12a is a great match with the Philips. E12 is also good but a fraction warmer. I tend to use the Polaris with more 'substantial' headphones myself. The E12a has a punchy, focused sound and gives very fine volume control. Also bear in mind that it has a right angled 3.5mm plug. The flat tangle free type cable is a bit thin to faff around with in order to change plugs.
