Ian, where are you getting your DSD files from? Don't see a lot of sources yet for them. I know some folks have worked out how to extract them as ISO off of a SACD. But l think they convert that to a PCM file. The ISO extracted from teh SACD can be played directly in Foobar without any further processing or the tracks inside can be extracted to either DFF or DSF files which are native DSD and can be played in a number of media players available for any kind of OS including Windows, Mac and Linux.

Yes, now how to find a Sony PlayStation with the correct firmware. That's getting tough to find. So these DSD downloads. Would I play them on Foobar and listen out of the headphone jack on my laptop, since I have no DSD capable DAC?

Yes you could play them in Foobar but as they would need to be converted to PCM to play through your DAC you might just as well get the PCM versions.

It's worth having a go with, Ron. The Micro isn't a cheap buy but the sound via digital is really clean. I think the most noticeable thing for me was the placing of sounds. I wouldn't say that fr shows 'bigger' bass or 'cleaner' treble or it's more extended. It probably is, but I don't think I hear it. It just gives the impression that the music has been scrubbed and is coming out squeaky clean!
Perhaps crisper attacks, but without direct comparisons, I can't tell. It's more like the imaging is improved from compressed files and more like an SACD sound on a really good amp.
The Micro is very good and maybe I'm getting the benefit of that as well. Even the Senn hd650 seems to become a little bit lively in the treble on some recordings that I've heard. No (so called) veil. The th900 can be too lively so I switch out the 3d effect which raises the top slightly to compensate and have been playing with the Micro filters.
For me, it's more like hearing the 'room' that the music is played in. You're more aware of space.

I find it that the problem of correctly reproducing a wide range of different kind of files lies in the DAC itself and not in the files.
Cheaper DAC's i have found they don't do so well with normal red book (16/44,1) but they tend to sound better with higher resolution files.
In my opinion there are treasures in 16/44,1 recordings that one has not really heard with the older or cheaper DAC's.
This has been more evident now that i have made me a Soekris ladder dac (although it doesn't play DSD) it easily outperforms everything that i have owned, and this is more evident in the 16/44,1 files.
I had a listening session with the new Aune S16 DAC and i was very impressed by the effect of the various filters on the reproduction. So it is also important what digital filtering is used, yet again this is disregarded in cheaper models that have only one manufacturer filter.
Also older (and some newer) NOS dacs sound terrible, despite the fact that many swear they sound analog, and this is due to digital and analog filter implementations.
I am not convinced about the DSD story and i don't have a preference or the urge to accumulate DSD files (although i have more than 1,5T classical and jazz on DSD).
