I just got my hands on one.
Not too bad either.
Similar build to d600 and same style, but smaller. Fit is better too. Quite comfortable on the ears actually because of the soft pads.
In comparison to the D320 which I also have here, it's more balanced in the bass. Seems more like a more 'normal' sound without as much honk and bass. It is better in sound than the 320 and cleaner tbh. Then again, it's virtually twice the price.
Treble isn't as extended as I'd like on the ears. There also seems to be a little harshness in the lower treble that becomes more obvious with volume.
They quote extraordinary figures for it. Probably - 400 db down at the extremes!! They quote 7 - 37kHz. There's nothing that particularly stands out with them, which is (at least I find) a good thing. I often find that a headphone with no real stand out frequency is more balanced in the long term and less annoying.
You can hear that it is a Denon since it's still a rich sounding headphone but the bass is very much more controlled than the other one I have.
I do like Denon sound. It's healthy sounding and not sibilant although on some models, the bass might be annoying to some. These ones are way down in bass quantities, but pleasantly full bodied. The harshness in the lower treble that I feel may be a problem to some. It's better at lower volume for me.
Edit: one thing that IS unusual about this headphones are the mids. Listening most of the evening, it just hit me that the mids on this are actually pretty good. That works well for vocals which get a good presence. No big bass to speak of; certainly not in comparison to the 320 and the top end is smooth sounding at low volume. It could have a bit more extension up there, but because the mids are very good, you can listen very comfortable at low volume and the presence does remain.
It's actually not too bad a headphone at all for the price. Unremarkable, I'd say, but that's kind of its strength. Pretty balanced although I think I'd prefer a little more top end bite. Quite good from Fiio x3 where it even focuses down at volume level 25 on pop stuff. I'm currently listening at 20 which is very low compared to what I normally use and it still sounds fine and the presence in the mids remain. If anything, I think it's possibly better sounding at lower volumes where the bass and treble just balance very nicely with those mids. I'd say the mids are its strong point actually..
