I've been given a copy of this album and gave it a listen today. I'm not really a fan of Status Quo if I'm honest, but listening to this makes them seem as though they're playing for a pensioners' party!!
The songs lose their 'rock' feel and because their stuff tends to be musically quite simple, they become a little 'toy town' sounding. I'm also not too fussed about the vocals.
In fact, to me, it kind of shows a simplicity in the songs that doesn't come across when they use electrics.
I'm really not too fussed about the album, but maybe that's just me? The songs just seem so ....... Ordinary. Even the singing kind of sounds half hearted. Makes me feel like putting on some old baggy trousers, a shirt and tie and doing the twist in the local village hall with loads of pensioners.
I notice that they were quite tight over how many string players they hired. The result is that it almost sounds like a string quartet, rather than a string orchestra with them.
I'd rather hear the songs in their original guises.
