A new album about to be relesed soon is Vulnicura. I have a hi res copy which is nicely recorded and sounds great on headphones. Only thing with Bjork, who I used to like a great deal, is that she doesn't seem to change anything massively and she still sounds like the Bjork of old to me.
Perhaps this one is more emotional and is using strings in the backings of some track. It opens with a retrospective sounding track. Typical vocal improvisations over string patterns while textures change. (Numbers of sounds heard)
My feeling is if you play any of these tracks, it would be difficult to differentiate them from the other albums except for extensive use of strings droning away underneath.
I also don't like the way she sometimes breathes in the middle of words. Like for instance saying the word 'Elephant' as 'Ele' breath 'Phant'. It's kind of unattractive in the English language. One from the album .... 'Trans' breathe 'formed.' It just sounds unattractive musically to me.
Also, her accent is rather strange. She needs an English speech coach. Instead of saying 'together', she sings 'tojether'. It's kind of jarring on the ear to an English speaker. Well, at least to me. She also uses the word F### in a kind of casual way that seems wrong. As though she thinks it's a normal word to use in a kind of love song. It seems to be the wrong word to me in the context she's using it. If it was Eminem using it as an expletive, then it works, but not in the context she uses it. She may be trying to shock, but it comes across as bad use of language. Nesffective actually. It makes her distant because of her use of the English language. She just seems foreign.
She also has a habit of 'swelling' on notes so it sounds kind of gasped, which can be a bit annoying!!
Anyway, it will be released soon I think. If you like Bjork, you'll probably like this album since to me it doesn't really go any further than her previous stuff.
I'd like to see some signs of development going on with her music but it's not happening yet. Almost like she's in a rut.
Recording quality is good though. The are some sounds that are really startling that seem to come from out of your head, in the room somewhere. Very strange effect. Some percussive smacks sound like they're in the house, not your headphone, so you instantly turn looking for something that has smashed!!
EDIT: just checked. It gets released in March on Amazon.
