Suddenly it's better. I blame my living on the Minnesota/Manitoba border. My tech devices get confused with the SAE/Metric conversions mixing in the air.

Yes I think so too Simon. I'd actually wanted the silver but the listing didn't specify and had a pic of the black version displayed. For the price I was prepared to live with that but getting the silver was a bonus. Last headphone related purchase because with the Mojo I don't feel I need / want another DAC. Also entirely happy with my headphones but have concluded less is more so plan on selling off a few and only keeping those that earn their keep (see regular use). Surprisingly the Pandora is looking like prime candidate for the chop despite imho being the best closed back I've owned! The logic is sound in my head even if it might not seem that way on screen The amp was just a last hurrah. Despite being happy with my gear I've always wondered how much 'better' a more expensive piece of kit might sound compared to what I have. Scratched that itch now so my journey is over. 99.9% sure on that

Yes to desktop amp.
No to usb. Prefer how it sounds using the S/PDIF optical connection. Limited to 24/192 on that but I don't listen to DSD material so not a problem for me.
Sounds better to my ears and I think that's actually the input John Franks prefers too.

i do remember reading that about JF. so isolation is not a problem for you. that was what won the battle in favour of the ifi, for me.

Yes isolation is not a problem at all with optical.
Didn't have any issues with the USB either if I'm honest. Did stick a couple of ferrite collars on my usb lead but not sure if that would have helped or not.
Purely a matter of preference in my case.

I'm thinking of moving the TEAC on along with the Polaris. The TEAC is a flipping brick and really just too big for my modest desktop. It's a really nice sounding amp, esp. with the TH-X00, but I'm just not if either it or the Polaris really put the Mojo to shame with any of my headphones. Certainly it sounds good enough to me to potentially sacrifice a teensy bit of SQ for a box the size of a pack of playing cards. Sorry for the close crop but this pic gives an idea of respective sizes (the TEAC with its need for breathing room takes over almost 1/2 my desk space...). You could almost fit a crate of Mojos into the TEAC and that's before you factor in the matching DAC TEAC sell!

at least you should not lose out on the teac, as you got a good deal in the first place.

I've decided to keep it. Despite its size.
Whilst sounding good there were a few things about the way it sounded that didn't quite gel for me. Swapped back from optical to usb with the Mojo last night and it's a different amp now.
It's interesting because the things that bugged me are actually the reasons I opted for optical when using the Mojo as an amp. For whatever reason those changes (more low end, fuller sound, less pronounced treble) didn't compliment the TEAC at all and left it a bit sultry, bassy and 'smoothed over' sounding.

I did try the Polaris with the Mojo usb last night but hadn't used it for a few weeks prior to that. Had primarily been using the Mojo on its own and really can't recall if I tried Polaris with Mojo optical.... If I did then I assume any changes were less pronounced.
You've got me curious now so think I'll need to have a listen and see.
edit: just compared both inputs with the Polaris. Although audible the differences are slight in nature. Unlike the TEAC where they are easily detectable even when casually listening.
