Haven't been to his house but we've had some beers...
There is the iFi nano which is a lot cheaper but doesn't have as many options.

Javier, You are invited to come at my home and you could try Bug Head Emperor vs any other player you like. HQ Player is a good player (to me, second best). Bug Head is a very different thing. I don't know if it is bit perfect or not. I only know what sound likes me. I'd like to see you at my home If you didn't live so damned far... I'm may give it another try one of this days but the interface is so clunky and hideous, don't know why people think GUIs affect SQ, there once was a guy who came up with an Audiophile Foobar which was basically a regular Foobar with another uncomfortable, clunky and hideous interface.

I got a question from someone that I didn't feel I had a good answer for.
Here it is. Is a laptop with USB 3.0 and a good external DAC and amp as good as the other expensive music servers (most many the times the cost of a decent laptop)? Or are they just expensive hard drives with other outputs other than USB?

Music servers usually are more convenient but if you are fine with a laptop I don't see any reason why you should change it for one. SQ, if beyond a certain minimum level, will be the perceibably the same.

Thanks Javier. That has been my experience with the few servers I have heard at meets. Some people claim they hear a huge difference between USB and SPDIF. On an external DAC with good USB implementation, I can't hear the difference. So why pay all that extra. Some of them I remember had a very awkward user interface.

Nope, I haven't but as a bitperfect player it doesn't add anything to what Foobar or XMPlay can do when set up for Bitperfect.
