The Audioquest NightHawk is one of the most technically advanced headphones that has ever been built. Skylar Gray and Audioquest spent over 2 years developing it. If you haven't already read about it, please go to the Audioquest website and check it out. That being said, almost no one knows what the finished product really sounds like yet, as they aren't available for purchase just yet. I received an email from Audioquest yesterday that they just received their first shipment of the NightHawk and would begin shipping to their distributors, so early adopters should start receiving them sometime next week. There are only a few final production models in the hands of reviewers right now. I have seen an unboxing video but haven't seen any reviews yet. There apparently were some changes made from the early prototypes to final production, so we need to wait to see what the reaction is when actual headphone users like us receive them. Personally, I never trust show impressions as most of the time people are listening to unfamiliar equipment in a noisy environment.

I can't see anything useful on their website about the Nighthawk. The Nighthawk page has some nice pics but just a single paragraph of marketing speak. Perhaps their newsletters are more informative?
I think you are right though in that it makes sense to keep an open mind and not to write off a product solely on the back of trade show impressions. 15 minutes in a show environment is hardly a great way to evaluate a headphone, let alone one that is semi-open.
That said it is hard to get too excited about a first effort from a company with no track record in the headphone world. Not to say they can't or won't deliver a good product just that I'll be exercising a healthy degree of scepticism until they get into the hands of folks whose opinion I value (& I know have no agenda to push).

Ditto. No harm in window shopping though.

Thanks for the signalation.
Looking at the Audioquest cable offering, I hope those headphones will be in a total different league because you know, their cables sold at 300-500€ with their DBS system (or something like that, don't remember exactly) which means a little box with inside some AA battery "to improve the sound quality" didn't impress me too much. Other companies did the same but they put in some resistors, capacitors, etc to "improve the sound". For sure you will hear differences between cables because they are doing some low-pass / high pass filtering with those boxes but when you market that as an ultimate way of reproducting the music..well that's a bit disappointing! Myself I made some test with cables (not expensive ones) and I can ear here and here some differences, sometimes noticeable and sometimes only differences which are hard to tell were in the Frequency spectrum and after those tests I'm just set with high-grade telecomunication cables. The price of these F1 cables are of about...3-5€/meter. Not enough pricey to be interesting for die-hard audiophiles but end-game for objectivist like me..and many others hopefully!
Still interested in those headphones btw, just saying!

These are interesting. I like the design but maybe not so much the metal bracket attached to the outer cup. If they sound really good then that price looks good to me.

Not a Sennheiser or AKG certainly - this headphone is not the typical hi-fi neutral sound, it's more like the sound of a single-driver speaker system.

They are the best looking and the most comfortable headphones I have ever tried in over 10 years. The quality of the material and the build are the finest I have seen and so they should for 699 Canadian dollars.I got my headphone in toronto. The bass is tight, detailed and they dive deep into the bass clef of the music. In fact the mids and the highs are also of the highest order. I am not a Pro reviewer or much of an amateur reviewer, but I will tell you that the bass, mids and highs are smooth flowing gestalt, a oneness that needs no splitting into separate parts. If you are a jazz and classical music fan, you will bless the day you bought these Nighthawk Headphones.

I noticed your first post on CA is pretty much exactly the same. You don't happen to work at Bay Bloor Radio by any chance?

Same post at Changstar as well, also just one post and no further replies.
I removed the link (which didn't work here anyway) and reference to the shop. View it as 'spam'.
The guys at CS aren't impressed and find it too dark sounding. Drivers appear to be (perhaps custom ?) made by Foster and are similar to Denon, Fostex drivers.
Hope to hear them some day so I can make up my own mind.

Has anyone had a chance to hear the NH yet? The more I read about it the more it piques my curiosity. Whilst I'm not enitrely sure I'd want it to use it as my main headphone I do think it'd be something I'd enjoy when I just want to chill out in the evenings. To Nighthawk, or not to Nighthawk, that is the question
