Would it be worth cracking them open and trying to take a measurement directly off the drivers, or is this something that needs better measuring equipment than a multi-meter? You could check the connector wiring. Just realize the measured Ohm values for L and R may not be the same. Turns out I don't have a proper screwdriver for those bitty Torx screws (T6, I think) so things remain stalled

MY A2C have developed a sometimes unbalanced sound. I initially assumed that it was probably because the earpads were getting old and "rolled" (if you're familiar with Aeons, you know what I'm talking about) I recently read on ASR an instance where somebody had an impedence mismatch that was causing his unbalance, so I decided to check mine. Initially, I would get a reading of ~15 ohms on both channels, but after about 1 hour of music playing the impedence would be off by 2 ohms or more (eg. measuring off the TRS plug, I'd get 18 ohms on TS and 21 on TR) Is there any chance this could be caused by something that wouldn't require an entire driver replacement - I got a quote on the driver replacements and I honestly don't know if I could be bothered to pay that much (warranty has expired, of course). BTW, I have checked the measurements using 2 different cables and got the same result with each one Sounds like a connector problem. It is not unusual for L and R drivers to be somewhat different in impedance. Could also be a driver issue. As these headphones are very low impedance a small change in resistance can already lead to level differences. What it is in your case I cannot tell. Would it be worth cracking them open and trying to take a measurement directly off the drivers, or is this something that needs better measuring equipment than a multi-meter?

For the life of me, I don't understand why Philips made the X2 with such easily replaceable earpads, but don't actually sell the darn things. It's beyond frustrating, cause IME, they are easily the best fitting earpads I've had on my head. They even sound great on other headphones - I have modded my SR125 with a large baffle to use bigger earpads, and the X2 earpads have been the ones that sound the best (kinda have to kludge-fit them, however). The good thing is the earpads do seem to be incredibly durable - even after all the years, mine are still in good condition - unlike the HD58x earpads which flattened out pretty quick I bought a pair of "X2" pads off eBay, but they use much softer foam and seem to bloat the bass
BTW, I have the original X2 - not the X2HR

I have one of these: www.brainwavzaudio.com/collections/cases/products/dj-gaming-headphone-case. I think it cost me ~$40. I don't have any AKG phones, but the site show that the K52 fits (I don't know how they compare sizewise with the 702) My biggest phones are the Fidelio X2 and Edition XS. It looks like they shouldn't fit, but surprisingly they do. I also think Slappa makes a case that is essentially the same thing. Vmota supposedly has decent cases in various sizes too. I'm not sure what the situation in your corner of the world is, but here in Canada they need to be shipped from China with expensive shipping. Also I just noticed re-reading this, you specifically mentioned pouches, not cases. In that case I have no idea, maybe a Crown Royal pouch?

How new is the van? It seems odd to me that it wouldn't play flac files. Just off the top of my head I would think the problem might be more due to tagging than the format. Possibly your flac have some unsupported tags or the embedded album art is too big or wrong format. I would try mp3tag and strip all but the most important tags and scale to artwork to 1000x or less. Its been ages since I last fired up EAC (my laptop doesn't even have an optical drive), but from what I remember it should write the tags to mp3 just as well as flac. I have a program called cuetools that can rip to both lossy & lossless, but again, no drive so I can't say how well it'd work. But it is free so it might be worth a download. If your looking at purchasing software for this purpose, I can't recommend dbpoweramp enough. It'll do almost anything you need with music files and it is fairly easy to use, plus it has a good support forum. PS. If you want, PM me an album of files & I can take a look at them for you and see if I can figure out what's tripping you up. Ultimately it should be faster to "fix" the flac if needed rather than have to rerip (of course you could just convert the flac to mp3 with foobar and see if that works) <edit> I forgot to add… you should use m4a instead of mp3. mp3 actually hasn't seen anything resembling an update in decades and m4a is being constantly improved (m4a isn't an Apple format either, it was created by the same guys that did mp3 (Fraunhofer Society) hi mate, thanks for the reply. the van is brand new but support literature is all but useless. it doesnt state supported files or max memory stick size. i did reformat an old usb stick and ripped just 1 flac file as a test but the head unit would not play it. i dont really understand tagging and tbh just want something really simple to use that has all necessary plugins already installed, i dont mind paying at all for something that requires little thought from me. interested in dbpoweramp following your recommendation. i assume this could mean i can delete foobar and eac? i guess i have nothing to lose by trialling it. Good call on giving dbpoweramp a try. You get a 3 week trial, so there's really nothing to lose if you don't like it. I was an EAC user until I found out about dbp. About 2 weeks in I purchased a license. I do still use other programs for additional tagging - musicbee is my main library handler, mp3tag & musicbrainz for more in depth tagging. I am pretty anal about having my files tagged "properly", but for just the basics dbp should suit you just fine.

i have been using EAC for years to rip my cd's to my pc with only a few hitches along the way. still finding it great for my pc, but having trouble when i want to rip to usb sticks for use in my 2 vehicles. i have always preferred to use flac files which seems ok in my own vehicle. i have just had a new company van delivered which has a unit that will play music from usb stick, but it appears not flac files. (came to this conclusion myself as manual does not specify playable files. so for this new van i need to get a new usb stick and rip to mp3 instead of flac. have tried several times with eac and foobar but not really getting anywhere. album, artist track info and album art all seem to be hit and miss. on my pc library i dont have album art as i dont need it, but when in my vehicles its nice to see it ( sad i know). so rather than struggling on with these free rippers, is there something out there that is SIMPLE to follow and suit ripping in both formats, with or without album art? cheers How new is the van? Its probably been asked before, but has anybody found a 3rd party earpad that doesn't change the sound? My stock pads are getting pretty flattened (as well as my 400i pads literally falling apart) and I would consider an aftermarket option if it is comfier and sound the same as stock. solderdude Speaking of stock pads, do you know if the older ones are still available?

Just recently had a blowout on one of my shoes. When I was getting new laces, I found some "no tie" ones on the shelf? These any good - for casual strolling around town?

solderdude I was reading your measurements on the new Senn earpads. Did you notice any meaningful change in comfort? I find my ears are a little cramped in the stock 58x earpads and was wondering if the different cross section would open up the interior a bit more The pads compress slightly less and are slightly bigger. They work for HD58X but the 5.5kHz peak becomes a bit higher. I'll take that to mean, "don't rush out and buy a pair. probably won't feel much different" As a side note… I got a really good deal on an open box A2C. Now those are comfy!

Would you care to speculate on whether the Sundara pads would change the sound? I'm think probably not.
A quick off topic… I see you updated your HE560 review. Any difference from V1? I still wonder which would be better for me, the 560 or Sundara…

I'm wondering how's the quality of Dekoni stuff in general?
After many hour of use, the earpads on my 400i are starting to look kinda mushroomed. After a quick look around I see that Dekoni claims that their "elite hybrid" pads measure the same as the stock 400is. I believe they cost ~$10 more than the HFM Pali pads - which I'd be more inclined to buy than the 400i pads.
The stock 400i earpads I got were pretty janky right out of the box, which is why I'd get the Pali/Sundara pads - at least they look higher quality in pics, unless the Dekoni are good enough to justify the extra $$
