The Foobar 2000 for Dummies article was very helpful. Thanks for posting it.
I've already managed to download and install the 31 band EQ, then using a FR graph from Golden Ears, remove most of the offending spike around the 4k band. I also did some other fiddling to smooth out some of the other irregularities. Obviously, I don't have any measuring equipment, but I do like, so far, what I have heard. That really is what this is about, right? I listened to Mark Knopfler's Privateering album for an initial test. The in-your-face peakiness in Mark's voice was gone, and the whole album sounded smoother. I'll do more listening on other bands, and do some more minor tweaks, but I like what I've been able to accomplish so far.
You guys have a great forum!

Hi Joe, You might want to give EasyQ a try. It's free and very good at what it does. The results will be much smoother than the traditional graphic EQ.

OK, so... I'm an idiot. I can't seem to get EasyQ to work. I've looked up various tutorials and am just as stymied as when I started. Is there something mystical I need to do with VSTs? Sacrifice a chicken perhaps? Maybe a goat?
Like I said, I'm old school.

Never mind. I got it. I may be an idiot, but at least I'm persistent!

Speaking of filtering and EQs, I love using EasyQ on Foobar. Anyone know how to EQ YouTube files? I'm sure there's something out there I'm overlooking.

Thank you. That reminds me I ought to give it an update soon. Some parts are a bit outdated.
