One type of weather that I'm always wary of is strong winds. I was out in a hurricane in the UK around 30 years ago and it was truly frightening. Tiles from roofs flying around and trees coming down all around. It was really dangerous.
I also was in Miami when a hurricane came in so I got in the car and drove for Orlando through that torrential rain that comes with them. I could barely see and cars were flying off the road into swamps on the way up. My car was buffetted around as I was trying to get away.
Got to Orlando and booked in at a motel, only to see the enormous damage that it did in Miami on tv. I was staying near the harbour and boats had been lifted out of the water!!
Funnily enough, the UK dealt with a hurricane better than we do with snow storms. Snow stops everything down here.

50-60mph winds provided a particularly laborious drive home from work this afternoon. That's not fog... It's blowing snow.

Does somebody clear the road for you, away out there? Impressive if they do!

Does somebody clear the road for you, away out there? Impressive if they do! In this case, we got lucky. Last week was unseasonably warm, so there was much melting going on. Once it froze up again, it out a hard crust on top of the remaining snow, which kept it from blowing and drifting. What's blowing in the picture is a scant half-inch of new snow; not enough to even cover the roads, let alone drift. Typically, we do have a county snowplow come up our road, but only after a significant snowfall; even then, the rural routes are so long, they typically take two or three days to reach us, which is why everyone up here has 4WD. Not Prius-friendly country!

It's a great dramatic shot Joe, I took it to be mid-blizzard, that's why I wondered at the road being clear. I think I've only seen snow falling in big flakes, don't recall a strong wind with snow, which we only get a couple of days a year and as Ian says, everything stops<G>

First screened porch fire of the season. Frogs and night birds serenade us as we sit, mesmerized by the dancing flames. Across the hill, the neighbors are also having a bonfire. No wolves tonight. Everyone is relaxed.

We are purposely old fashioned in our screened porch. No electricity, just kerosene lanterns. It keeps things feeling cozy and timeless.

Fantastic place you live Joe, the open fire shot says it all for me.
I think I'd last about 2 days 'way out there though!

Visitors seem to like it here and there are some nice places, especially given how small this country is. I wouldn't make a special journey here from any great distance, though I suppose we all tend not to appreciate our home area. Just had a look - NI area 14,130 sq. kilometres, Minnesota, 225,163

Just had a look - NI area 14,130 sq. kilometres, Minnesota, 225,163 Yeah, Minnesota is a big state. The U.S. is enormous! I remember talking to our tour guide in (then) Yugoslavia, who said he visited the U.S. once. He rented a car, thinking he's see the Statue of liberty, Niagara Falls, and Mount Rushmore in one day, then see the Redwood Forest and the Golden Gate bridge the next. He drove foe half a day and realized he was still in the same state! Reality set in as he came to grips with the size of this country and the fact that he would not see nearly as much of it as he had hoped.

Even Florida seems huge, driving from Orlando down to Key West. I couldn't believe how long it too me to get there.

Perfect day for a stroll through the cedars. Just about my favorite place to be still and go back in time. No cell service, no interruptions, no worries.
