I've come to the conclusion that Mojo is not the cause of the playback issues I experienced with DSD files. Rather it's driver / computer related.
I had two distinct issues. 1) a constant snap, crackle & pop using the ASIO driver with bitrates > 16/44. 2) regular drops in sound and stutters with both WASAPI and ASIO (more so ASIO) when playing hi-res / DSD material.
Playing around last night I've concluded that the ASIO distortion issue was driver related. On Chord's website there are 2 packages available; 1 labelled 'Windows 7' the other a rather vague 'Windows'. Now normally manufacturers state if they have a dedicated W10 driver available and as Chord don't I assumed the one labelled 'Windows' was likely for legacy versions e.g. Vista, XP. So I originally opted for the W7 drivers as my experience is that W10 is fine with them by and large.
Decided to uninstall the W7 drivers last night just to see if the 'Windows' driver would make any difference. Since doing so I no longer experience any distortion playing DSD files using ASIO.
Afterwards I did a bit of a stress test with a virus scan and Chrome running and was still getting regular sound drop outs with both WASAPI and ASIO though. Could see in JRiver that at the time the dropouts occurred playback was buffering so tried increasing buffer sizes but it made no difference.
Then started to monitor CPU usage and it was clear that buffering was only happening when CPU usage spiked to 100%. Interestingly JRiver usage is quite low and Chrome and particularly Kaspersky are far more CPU intensive. Kaspersky is like a ravenous man at an all you can eat buffet and it'll happily snap up whatever free CPU usage there is (saw it hitting 70% at times) and is clearly creating the bottleneck on my system.
The solution for me is to avoid running full scans unless I can find a setting within Kaspersky that allows me to cap CPU usage.
With just Chrome (either browsing or launching) and JRiver so far DSD playback as been faultless.

I never had any problems upscaling/upconverting/resampling/younameit with Foobar, JRiver or HQplayer thoug I'll admit my computers knowledge might be a bit above average user's. The iDSD micro is excellent for this as it accepts a huge range of sampling rates in both PCM and DSD.
