The updates are up now on the Fiio site and in the case of the X1, there is a massive difference to scrolling with the wheel. It's way better.
So, X1, X3 and X5 mk I's have all had their final updates now. Other than that, it's a case of moving to the mk II.

1.6 fixes the wheel issue. Makes it a lot better to use now.
I think that the X1 is just amazing value comparing it to x3 and x5. It takes 128gb and plays high definition files so no complaints really. Not much else around at that price like the X1.

Absolutely. Value is brilliant with these and differences in sound quality in comparison to the others isn't as great as some might describe. Only thing it doesn't support that I use is dsd files.
Funny thing is it's the one I use more often than the others I think. I also have a nice leather case for it as well which makes it feel a bit luxurious. I must admit, I fancy a gold one now!!

As an FYI... I contacted FIIO yesterday regarding the X1, and there is a planned "2nd Generation" update for the X1 coming in July (perhaps a bit later). They would not share any additional information, but I thought I'd pass it on.

Tim, is that an update for the new x1 or the old one?
I thought they might have stopped offering updates for the x1 and moved on to a newer version like the others.

I'm assuming the new one, but I'm not sure.
I asked if they were any planned updates for the X1 as the X3 & X5 were "2nd generation." They responded that "the X1 2nd gen is estimated to be released in July or a little later."
I asked what the planned updates / changes were going to be and they responded: "there's not yet any detailed information"

Yes, perhaps the 'update' for the x1 is actually the new x1?
They've left the V1's behind for updates and moved on which was a shame. The filing system still needed a bit of tweaking tbh. I hope they've managed to sort that out with the V2's.
The interface is the worst thing about them all really, in comparison to Ipods.

Haven't heard any noise about a new x1 yet, but there is a thread on head-fi about a new "transport" Fiio is aiming to get to market

My wife has been using an old Blackberry as an mp3 player for her work but yesterday it broke down.. (Finally) So I gave her an X1 to try.
Three things came out from her using it as someone who knows nothing about gear.
The sound was way better!! (She could actually hear it) The font on the screen is difficult to read even in comparison to the Blackberry. Blackberry playlists are done on the fly, but with the X1 it's a bit more complex.
She's feeding line out into a pa speaker and even customers noticed. The font thing is a pain and it does need to be larger and playlists aren't really very easy to manage so I made separate folders with each session in its own folder. Bit of a pain, but workable if you renumber the tracks to get them in the right order.
She did like the X1 a lot though, so it is pretty attractive as a player to someone who isn't particularly a hifi type.
I compared the X3 and X5 while she was out today and there is indeed a difference in sound. Using the k553 direct from headphone out, the X5 is cooler sounding and the X3 has an added warmth. The X5 sounds a little more open as a result.
I think that the differences might be slightly more difficult to detect on a less analytical headphone though. The k553 does highlight anything wrong in the treble pretty easily, although it's not quite as sharp as a K550.
So in my comparison, the X3 is slightly 'thicker' sounding than the X5 which I hadn't particularly noticed until I did a 'head to head' today.
Something else I found with the X5 is that the headphone out sounds slightly more edgy than coax out into an Aune dac/amp. The Aune feels more comfortable at higher volume. I might get the update of this Aune dac/amp. I do like its sound a lot tbh.

I have only heard good things about Aune. Which model are you using?
