The HD662-EVO I got had velours pads included in the box, pleather pads were fitted. The pads from the HD681-EVO are the same as the ones on this one. Thanks for your quicck reply. Have you also ordered at Thomann?

The HD-662 EVO is in stock at Thomann now so hopefully, they'll be going out soon. that's brilliant news Ian - I will have a look later on, lets hope they have a good stock and not just 1 or 2?

Does one pad perform "better" than the other? The pleather pads have a few dB more bass, otherwise they are quite similar. In the HD662 article the differences are shown. Besides the change in bass I much prefer velours for comfort as long as the velours is really soft.

Thanks Frans. Mine are in the mail from Thomann -- not sure how long they will take to get to here though.

Mine arrived this morning and just to confirm, it came with velour pads. Terrific value. The velour pads are really soft and flexible. While they are the most comfortable pads I've worn, because of the really soft rubber surround that they have, they are fiddly to get into the retaining groove. Once in, they are really nice. I also changed the stiff wire wire for something more posh. Made a huge difference to the sound ........... sorry. I'm messing around. It didn't. It's just nice and short and is way more flexible!!! Sound is extremely good out of the box without mods. Deep bass and raised treble. A fantastic sound for a headphone at such a low price. Because they are actually sold at such a low price, your expectations are way exceeded and you know, I reckon that many people would buy more than one instantly buy a Superlux next time a new model comes out, simply because they are so affordable and frankly, amazing value for money tbh. My guess is that most customers return to buy another headphone, so they profit from bulk of sales rather than make a load on each individual headphone. I'd recommend these without any concerns.

I just got them an hour ago. Initially they were supposed to get here on Monday but UPS is awesome. Since I am at work at the moment, I only had a chance to listen to a few songs on my phone and yes, they are amazing. Indeed, the sound is very good out of the box without mods. I am curious to see how the sound changes with mods, especially since they are very easy to do. Build quality is pretty much the same as the 681 EVO and should last a while - a friend owns the 681 EVO and he didn't have any trouble with them and he's not the careful type. Everything Frans said in the modification guide about the sound is spot-on. The bass especially, is great. Vocals were nice, but I cannot say i was impressed probably since i am used to my HD650 - voices are a bit forward (i would say) but not loud...hard to describe for me. I don't have many other headphones to compare them with, but for the price, these are truly amazing. I am so grateful for the recommendation - both to Frans for the amazing article and to Ian who directed me to this forum. Thank you.

I don't have many other headphones to compare them with, but for the price, these are truly amazing. Stock the mids are way too forward. The treble a tad too hot and too much bass (can one ever have enough ?) The mods make the 'brightness' and forwardness less and more towards neutral but still more forward than HD600. Bass levels will be too high with the pleather and mods. The velours bring better balance. It remains more fun and 'open' sounding than HD650. Best not too compare it too much and let your brain get accustomed to the pleasant coloration. Really nice bass, forward but not too forward mids and nice treble. Not as refined in the treble as HD650 is but also not 'weird, harsh, splashy nor rolled off'. The mods are really easy to do and easily reversible.

Can't wait to get home, mod 'em and plug them in a decent source. I'm thinking Hey you by Pink Floyd as a first song...yes...should be good

I might have to put mine on hold for a week or two until I get my speaker sorted but you never know I cannot believe they can build such a good headphone for that price and both Superlux and Thoman make money on them - unbelievable

They really are amazing value, Chris.
Frans, the way it's being described is slightly odd.
Treble too high. Bass too high. Too much in the mids.
So everything is too high?
It suggests that there are two suckouts. One at the top of the bass and one at the bottom of the treble.
It sounds like the bass, mids and treble all need to be lowered...

I just removed the pads from mine and there is a round piece of what appears to be synthetic felt about 1-2 mm thick on top of the driver - its glued in place. Sorry for the phone quality images. Were these present of the review sample? Or is this something they added later on? If it is something they added recently it's interesting that they went with felt since in the measurements, it did almost nothing as far as i understand. I think i will just to the tape mod for now since i didn't notice any harsh treble yet. EDIT: in the end i went with 1 thin layer of tissue paper.
