Hey Friends, Frans and I have been working on the G1217 version of the in-line Kameleon filter. Here are the details:- Pre-built and kit versions of the in-line filter will be available just as our amplifiers are / Built with the same excellent quality parts and PCB work - We will be producing and stocking modules for all headphones Frans has modeled so far. Most popular modules will come first, others will come in time as requested. These will be his reference designs - Modules will of course be plug and play! - Many wanted a design to sit under the amplifiers. I totally get that. However, this design will be standalone. The reasoning for this is we would have to have custom chassis parts made for each amplifier design past and present as well as a stand-alone design. In short, a big pain in the arse. This design will be a stand-alone unit in a G1217 style chassis to keep things affordable and dead sexy. There is no volume control - just line in and line out. - The unit can be ordered with power supply for stand-alone use or pass through cable (G1217 amplifiers can use the pass through cable). With the pass-through, you simply plug your Ember, Polaris, Sunrise etc.. power supply into the Kameleon. There is a secondary port in which you will plug the pass through cable into which will go to your amplifier. This way a single power supply handles both units - Kameleon will have a 5 year warranty as standard with all G1217 products (pictured Kameleon is with CNC'ed alu chassis) Pricing for acrylic chassis:- $199.99 built / $179.99 kit for Kameleon / Pass through cable - $229.99 built / 209.99 kit for Kameleon / With PSU - Modules $39.99 each - CNC chassis adds $39.99 to kit or built You can order the Kameleon HERE

Yeah! That was quick! :-) I will share my experience with Frans' prototype, totally worth it!

Man, I hate to be the first to ask, but since the Massdrop Fostex TH-X00 is the only headphone I (currently) own that would be a module for me. Cool to see this bad boy come to light.

Does the basic Kameleon come with a choice of module or is that a required additional purchase to use it?

Ok, I finally managed to solder one extra resistor in the HE400i filter. Now I can use Frans' prototype with the D2000 and HE400i filters. I asked Frans to make the D2000 in such a way that the excellent bass would remain untouched. He did a great job balancing the mids to give these cans more clarity in the mids. With the filter on, the difference is subtle because it affects a very specific part of the frequency range. But if I use the filter for a while and then I turn off the switch, the change is quite evident. Without the filter, the overall sound becomes a bit mudded, probably because the mids in the default phones are a bit recessed. I like much more the new sound signature. With the HE400i the effect is MUCH more apparent. The added sub-bass is greatly appreciated, and Frans removed the small treeble peak around 10 kHz (IIRC). There is also more clarity in the mids. The main effect is that listening to these cans at low volume with the filter on, the sound is more enjoyable thanks to the extra bass and added clarity. Lovely change! Needles to say that the difference between having the filter on/off is much larger than changing amp, and as large as changing cans. I think it is one of the best investments I ever made in this kind of equipment and, at least with both my cans, I can only recommend the filters! Crispy has made some comments worth reading in the Kameleon-2 thread.

There are several THx00 all having a different FR. Jude's measurements would be the most trustworthy to use. Would have to compare to a HD600 or HD650 measurement of Jude to calculate a filter for it. So far it looks like it has too much warmth (bass bleeding in the mids slightly) and some uneven treble response. The mahogany and ebony seems to only need some changes in clarity and treble quality. The purple heart could have a little less warmth as well. It does seem possible to make them tonally more balanced, the ebony and mahogany changes will probably be subtle, the purple heart slightly less subtle. These seem to be more tonally balanced versions of the TH900, less exaggerated bass and less treble.

Does the basic Kameleon come with a choice of module or is that a required additional purchase to use it? I have no idea what Jeremy plans for this. Needless to say without a module the amp does nothing (well, there will be no sound) It needs at least either a filter module, crossfeed module or a 'flat' module.

BTW, do you use the same layout for the filters that Frans used in the Kameleon and inline filters? I mean... Can I buy a filter from Jeremy and plug it my prototype? (Not that I need it at the moment!)

yes, G1217 and Kameleon filter modules are interchangeable. I made a slightly different filter PCB for G1217 amps where all the parts are on the top side. On the current PCB some parts are on the bottom side. Size and shape are the same though.

That's right Simon. The filters just plug in to a socket.
Hd650 module is the business!!

They couldn't find any!!! I had an agonising roll on the floor one night which made them wonder if I'd passed a stone and not realised.
After hospital tests though, they found one kidney draining much slower than the other. So tests for tumours followed. Nothing found so Im just being monitored in case the kidney blocks entirely.
I could have been born with a slow kidney or something is going on, but they can't see any reason for one to empty slower than the other! Weird isn't it? Pains have gone though. Took a long time.
As far as the filters go, I worry about continually changing them. Eventually, the contacts could become dodgy, so I dedicated mine to just the hd650 which is the best of the lot IMO.
