I don't think he did. Also don't know if it is the proper thing to do. The LISST is designed for a higher voltage rail (Schiit amps work on much higher tube voltage rails) and because of the way the heater section is designed and have no idea if that voltage is used as well for something it is highly likely it won't work.
Before the Polaris was designed my goal was to make a 'FET based' tube replacement for G1217 amps but because of the different voltages and other issues I ran in to it was decided to make the Polaris instead which is not based on compromises I would otherwise have to make. This was mainly because I wanted to keep the design simple. The 'tube replacement' was becoming too complex. This was quite some time before the LISST saw the light of day...

I was just going to say - we tossed that back and forth a year or two ago (ss tube plug in). Polaris was by far the best choice over an add on / compromise. Glad we went the way we did! Polaris is a GEM

Yes, it is indeed. Every time I come back from a trip abroad (where I normally use my phone to listen to music), and plug the Polaris ... it is SO MUCH better! I am really glad that I went down that road, I had kind of given up on SS amps before I got my Polaris. PS: I just arrived from a trip to Germany, listening to Polaris + modded Philips :-)

Best sound that I have heard on Garage1217 is the Ember with dual Visseaux 6J5's out to the Senn 700. Great depth of sound. Retired the 650's, at least for now.

Yesterday at the airport in Frankfurt a shop had the hd700 playing at fixed volume some acoustic music.
I have to admit that I quite liked what I heard, but it was hard to assess much without a volume control and the background noise of the shop.
What is the impedance of the hd700?

I believe I saw somewhere that solrighal tried the Schiit LISST with the Ember, but I don't remember seeing any impressions. Just realized Schiit is selling these as singles instead of just pairs, so now I'm curious. Does anyone here have impressions with the LISST? It wasn't me mate, sorry. I have zero experience of any Schiit products.

What is the impedance of the hd700? 150 Ohms.

They might have had a 'loudness' type of eq switched in. Was it treble laden like the hd800?

Very resolving with string instruments and soundstage seemed larger than with my he400i. Pleasant amount of bass too. But I had no control on what was being played. Maybe no loudness, but they may had eq-ed the music to those demo headphones, who knowns. But they seem to get a lot of love from several forum members!

Nice comparative review on Headfi Project Ember tube rolling forum,,, Originally Posted by joespride View Post Originally Posted by joespride

Sound wise I am cycling through several tubes right now I bought a big stash from Connieflyer along with 2 adapters .
Initial impressions are the 6j5 reminds me of 45 & 2A3 type SET amps, They have superb mids very musical with some added warmth, The 6l5 is is more along the lines of the 300b warmer with perhaps a bit of recessed mids but just so lush its like a warm blanket in winter
The 7193 is more refined more technically correct also seems to have more gain, they are a definite step up from all the single tubes I have heard to date, I find myself drawn more to the 6j5 simply because I LOVE set amps and the warmth they offer
I wont comment on sound stage because for me headphones are lacking in this department no matter which cans, including the current king of imaging the hd800 (I recently sold)
I have a lot more listening to do as is always the case above are my impressions and YMMV

The 700 imho, are superior to the 650's, after having them for a few years, very familiar with them. Now I have had the 700's a little over a month, but prefer them,by quite a margin. Have not heard the 800's so can not compare to them, but the treble is very controlled, not overly peaking, and the low end and middle are much more resolving than the 650's. Did not think I would say that, but the 700's are here to stay, and both pair of 650's, one's gone, and the over going up for sale. One year old, black box, great shape, should not be a problem selling them.

Very cool, thanks for the response.
I guess I made a mistake on the user who I saw trying it... it was over on HF.

So are there any general "rules" or guidelines on how to configure the Ember? For example, this setting will tend to do X, this combination of settings Y, etc.? Sort of a quite "how to use the Ember" guide.
