Hi. Retired my Ember from office duty to home duty yesterday, and I've hooked it up to active speakers at my home desk. When connected to the speakers the sound was a bit low. Will changing from low input to high input gain work on speaker out setting? Will changing output resistance do anything for speaker out or just headphones? I'd think your active speakers would also have their own volume control. I don't think the impedance setting will affect your speakers but the hi gain might.

bilboda is correct. The impedance settings will not affect the sound unless the pads on the underside have been connected (so the line-out is no longer disconnected when a headphone is plugged in) In that case a higher output R setting and having a headphone with a varying impedance connected will change the tonal balance.
This is only true though for Ember 2 and Ember 2.1. The original Ember does not have the disconnected line-outs when a headphone is plugged in. For the original Ember the output R setting has no influence when a headphone is used at the same time.

So what is the difference between the Ember II and Ember 2.1?

Ember 2.1 has a slightly delayed start of the heater power supply which lowers the inrush current somewhat. That won't make any audible differences.
Another change is the input capacitor bypass circuit which now has 4 possible configurations instead of just bypass and inline. depending on the tube used certian settings may give some improvements noise wise or 'volpot-scratch' wise.
Otherwise it is exactly the same.

Ember V1 with supercharger and cap bypass upgrade done at the shop. Anyone else have their multicolor led start blinking? Stop working? Interfere with the sound? Here's how it all started... Purchased a 6f8g to 12ax7 adapter, a couple 68fg tubes and an ecc82 as well. Plugged in the adapter with a 6f8g tube, saw the red light go off, all is well I guess but very low output, even with volume at max. Same on my other 6f8g tube. Bad adapter? I dunno. Installed the ecc82, it ran fine but the led (purple at this point) would slowly blink. Hmm... tried an already tested 6sn7 with adapter. No multicolor led and very low output. Something has changed for sure. Back to the ecc82, no multicolor led and low output , hunh? Switched the led jumper to off and the sound resumed on the ecc82 but not the 6sn7 which still had low output. Plugged in my 2 6L5's with adapter and it sounds as beautiful as ever. I was running topless and noticed the super charger was very hot. So, what did I break and how can I fix it? Soldering iron ready.... I will test the 6f8g adapter to see if it is wired correctly......maybe should have done this first, you think?

V1 but no SC.

Got my purple light back with the s 6L5's. Not inclined to try the 6f8g again until I know more. Is the supercharger supposed to run hot? I mean real hot, hotter than tubes? I read in an earlier post that the inductor was not supposed to be hot but it seems every component on the supercharger board is too hot to touch.

I think it might be safer to wait for Jeremy or Frans to get back to you Bilboda. Something doesn't sound right if the board is getting that hot. It'll get damaged. Both are pretty busy at the moment, but you will get an answer eventually.

I used a 6F8G/6C8G TO ECC88 adapter. I wonder if using 6F8G to 12ax7 was the right choice, because I never had a problem...and the tubes have add an interesting flavor to the sound, some of them emphasize nicely the lower end :-) Like Rabbit said, better wait for Frans of Jeremy to answer!

I've switched tom my Aune X1S until I know more. My adapter has some errors, I think.

I was thinking about getting an Aune. I really like the older version that I have a lot. It had this funny domed vol pot which I changed but it sounds excellent. The X1 goes into a bit higher resolution than mine.

I'll be sending it to Jeremy for a checkup. The excess heat is not good and it's not obvious on where the likely short occurred or exactly what was affected. Certainly nothing visible on my end.

Jeremy fixed me up. The 6f8g to 12ax7 adapter is wrong, not quite sure how. I purchased a 6f8g to 6sn7 and all is well. Just an extra adapter in the mix. I have an NU and a Raytheon, leaning towards the NU. Heard the F in feet in a song so clearly . Tell me what you heae when she sings ,'we'll bring the world to....? around 2:35 www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmHfo_3EGFA

Tell me what you heae when she sings ,'we'll bring the world to....? around 2:35 Around 2:28 I hear 'promise we'll take the world to its feet' and then at 2:35 'bring it to it's feet'. Between those two lines there's a single word that isn't too clear...'mounted' perhaps?
