Both the heater circuit and the power supply where Jeremy worked on had slow on.
It is the tube heater that draws too much with some tubes that was the limiting factor.

Frans,
I was wondering if the 7 pin 6J6 can be adapted to work with the ember. The heater current and voltage fit, it just has a single shared cathode instead of one for each side. I don't how this effects things. I thought it would be an easy adapter to make until I got stumped on the single cathode.
Thanks!

I just bought a 12ad7 tube off of eBay that sounds really good on my ember. Im hearing details on the drums and bass I haven't noticed before.

Perhaps such a tube could be made to work with a dedicated adapter. However, it was designed for receiver duties and not for audio.

No problem. Thanks for the input. I may make an adapter later on just to see what they sound like, since I have some. I'm a lousy solderer so I'm trying to focus my efforts on tubes that are worth the trouble.

I managed to find an adapter for 6ak5 to 6dj8s. And it works with 6ag5wa tubes. It sounds really cool. They seem to hsve a lot of mid bass, and the vocals really pop.
I made a temporary adapter for 6au6 pentodes using 2 prototyping boards I found on ebay and a bunch of heavy gauge shielded wire. There is a ton of noise though. I left the wires connecting the 2 boards to the ember real long. Is it likely the noise is from having such long wires?
Thanks.

The noise is coming from the tubes. Most likely they operate at their absolute minimum current.
Is G2 connected to the anode in the adapter ?

Yes it is. I tried both of your configurations, and I believe g2 - cathode is in both configs.
I have a bunch of other 7 pin pentodes to try I just figured I better ask before I spend the time making wiring diagrams, in case it was my lousy workmanship. It looked like a rats nest of wires...

I reconfigured it for 6aq5(a). There is no noise, and I like the way they sound a lot. They have a big sound stage. Right now they sound better than any other dual tube setup I have. I'm curious to see if it stays way or if its just the new thing.
I'm just happy I got it to work and they sound good.

They question I have is: does the heater wiring effect the sound? Since I'm using 6v tubes, I can wire the heaters in series or parallel. I'm using series because its easier. I'm assuming that if I change to parallel it won't effect the sound, just the way the amp powers the tubes, correct?

correct. In the Ember all 12V heaters are fed with 6V so it does not matter which config you choose. In both cases the heaters have 6V on them.

I'm deaf on my left side (I had an inner ear tumor). So, I had my Project Ember made to play in dual mono. I found a guy that makes an audipohile quality headphone with 2 drivers on one side, and I'm going to get it.
How is the dual mono achieved on my ember? Is this something I could mod to play stereo with a flick of a switch, or was it wired into the pcb? I really like my beyerdynamic headphones and don't want too make them useless by making a permanent mod. I'm assuming there a pretty good chance ill just have to get a 2nd amp.

I suspect Jeremy made an attenuation module linking left and right. Perhaps it is best to contact Jeremy (Garage 1217).

Hi, as embarassing as this sounds, when I was resoldering my volpot (there was some noise and random cutting off of audio on the left channel whenever I touch the volpot), I somehow lifted the rightmost two solder pads (if you look at the amp from the top). Miraculously, the amp is still fully functional so far, with the abovementioned issues half resolved since I at least reflowed the cold joints I made last time but it appears that I will need a new volpot after all. But still, how should I repair those lifted pads?
Also, what is the model name of the volpot so that I can replace it?

Contact Jeremy for the ordernumber of the volpot.
Repairing traces can be done by scrathing away the plack lacker at the point where it is still good scratch it till copper is clearly visible. Tin that part carefully. Then run a thin wire from there to the volpot. You can use one strand from a mains cable for instance. Should you want to fix it neatly you can clean the PCB at that point and use a permanent black marker to make it black again.
