Although I keep reading new posts, I haven't been very active in the forum for almost 8 months now. I have to say that I have reached a system that really pleases me with every kind of music: Ember/Polaris + Kameleon inline filter + HD800. The combo is truly amazing, especially thanks to the in-line filter. It has left me wanting nothing else :-) Hence my lack of activity! My father came to Stockholm one month ago to visit us and he tested my rig at home. He was astonished, when we compared listening to the same song with his cellphone + chepo in-ear buds vs my rig (of course!) Anyway, I hope you guys are enjoying as much your systems as I am enjoying mine. Enjoy the summer! thank the lord for that , mate. if your Dad's phone had beat your system then we have all wasted shed loads of money! i am in agreement ref the the hd800 on Kameleon. the only thing i am not completely sure about is my "closed" headphones so may try something else there. tending to listen more to speakers of late, but still using Ember as pre. i would have thought you would have removed the mother in law from your avatar by now!!

I recently got a pair of Vanatoo T0, and I am very happy with them, although I have never tried them with the Ember as a pre: vanatoo.com/shop/speakers/transparent-zero/It was a real PITA to get them in Europe. In the end a friend took them with him overseas. The good thing is that these are very small and the sound is great in my opinion.

Looks as though the HD800 has been discontinued...... became aware of this on another site... i have emailed Sennheiser UK for clarification and will post their reply when i get it. Have seen the HD800S going for £1049 (RRP £1399) on ebay uk but stock fluctuates from month to month.... hopefully pricing for used HD800 headphones will drop a bit lower than currently.

Yep looks like it...
Chances are the 2nd hand price might increase a few years from now as they will become more difficult to get.
I assume either something new is coming or the HD800S is sold much better than the HD800 and producing small quantities isn't profitable.

Hello Oliver,
Thank you for your email. The HD 800 is not discontinued and is still a current and active product in the market.
I hope this helps.

On the Sennheiser website the HD800 is no longer visible though. A search on the website also gives some results but not the HD800. Maybe there is still stock or only available through dealers and not the official website.
Remains a mystery why it isn't listed any more. It still was half a year ago.

Does the HD800 with completely worn OEM ear pads (i.e. microfibre completely flaked off, pads still feel rigid ) sound (subjectively) drastically different than with fresh pads? I recently bought a used pair with worn pads. I was going to buy new OEM pads but heard pad flaking/disintegration starts really early on (less than a year). I can live with worn pads for a while if that isn’t drastically affected.

I have my HD800 (secondhand) since Nov. 2016 (now May 2019) and no flaking at all with original pads.

Thanks! That’s reassuring. I guess the previous owner of my pair didn’t replace his pads since new. My pair has a 89xx serial number, so I guessing they’re quite old and are long overdue for a pad change.
