After the driver membrane had been loosened left and right sounded the same and measured closer as well. I have had issues with the cable with all T40 and T50RP's I had and modified. Yes, some de-oxit and plugging/unplugging it a couple of times makes the problems go away but still... Also I found that from all the Fostexes I had and modified almost all of them had quite some L and R differences. Once I had 3 at the same time and selected the drivers with the closest matching and made 3 better matched ones this way. You can also apply different amounts of damping and make L and R sound and measure closer. Really a matter of quality control IMO. Didn't have the alcantara pads so couldn't try.
I compared the T50RPmk3 with Kameleon to the old T50RP on Kameleon. Granted, the old Kameleon had Shure pads and some modifications while the mk3 did not. The old T50RP (EQ'ed) sounded better to me than the T50RPmk3 (EQ'ed). So I sold the mk3 again.. no regrets.

Hi everyone! I am working on a T50RP MK2 mod, and was wondering if anyone has discovered some definite ways to increase sub bass/decrease mid bass? I seem to stumble upon it every now and then, but then I can't reproduce it later for whatever reason, and I end up still not knowing what made it happen.
I am using Beyerdynamic cups with a 3d printed closed back cup attachment replacing the dt990 grilles, so the super specific cup treatments probably won't work quite as well here.

I think the driver itself is limited in frequency response. Hard to say how the driver responds in a different enclosure. Some porting to outside (very small holes) and (p)leather pads may be the best way to increase the lows. It kind of works with the a lot of headphones this way provided the driver isn't too rolled off. The T50RP driver might be. Getting the right 'mix' of subbass boost but not a midbass boost will be harder to achieve.
Perhaps EQ is the easiest way.

I can EQ it all day long, but getting it just right is an intoxicating challenge! I can call it quits right now and be left with a sort of modernized HD650 type sound, but I want to try a little teeny bit more

Yes, EQ-ing properly is a challenging thing. It helps if you have access to measurement equipment.
Trying to do this acoustically, at least in my experience, with the exact required results is even more challenging. Changing something acoustically almost always also changes aspects you don't want changed. 'Adjusting/changing' acoustic properties of pads etc. is even more challenging. Porting is the easiest thing to do, providing the enclosure doesn't leak near gimbals, cable entries etc.
