Hmm. I think that is too much. If u have quality control then its better. I use equalizer apo with peace. It have nice features and good control. But it's only for Windows.
3350 Hz, +5 dB, Quality 10 5050 Hz, +5 dB, Quality 10, Left channel 5010 Hz, +5 dB, Quality 10, Right Channel 8500 Hz, +5 dB, Quality 10, Right Channel <-- I just found I had this dip on upper frequency. Left channel was OK.

Considering these latest offerings from Superlux and my two pairs of 662EVO's, I cannot help but wonder when they will improve their headband design. Plastic just isn't durable enough.

After some of the mods the 688 seem to me a bit too much bassy/warm, but i still need to raise the pads and then listen to them a few hours.
Before doing that i want to do some (cheap) pads rolling and then decide what to do on them.
Thanks for all the tips.

I added 64mm x 3 mm rubber band to the driver and the cup gap, where original pleather pad edge goes. It helped with bass control. Less womby and more solid.

I also want to try some rubber/foam under the pads but didn't have time lately. Need to listen some more, but i quite enjoy them as they are especially with rock/jazz.
Edit: did it now - there is an improvement in the low end.
Overall i like the modified HD688, happy with the purchase. Sad that they are not like the proto, but...oh well.

Disappointed after all these mods. Holes in the graph, spiky treble. The modded proto seemed more advanced and Solderdude compared it to top of the line Sennheisers...

Indeed the prototype was much flatter and had something the HD800 does so well. It wasn't better than the HD800 though. The prototype was more enjoyable after mods though. Now experimenting with some passive filters. The prototype improved a lot, the production HD688 not so much. They are too far apart in so many aspects.
Had been listening to the HD688 exclusively for a while and have to say it grew on me. Can compare it a bit with the modified Philips uptown. That one also has a pleasant 'tone' to it. The HD688 (modified) also has a pleasant tone and soft treble but isn't exceptional in any way. Sounds a bit 'hollow' It is just a bit better than the HD662-EVO (modified) in some areas. Currently working on passive filters for HD688 and HD662EVO that will replace the toilet paper and improve SQ. Toilet paper is a cheap and reasonable effective mod but also takes away some things you wish it hadn't.
Alas ... it is what it is...can't do anything more to it whithout f-ing up something else in the tonality.

The proto has the white paper covering the squarish hole in the middle while the production model has a black mesh. What effect would replacing the mesh with that type of paper have? (been wondering for a couple of day )

The mesh is virtually open. Covering it with toiletpaper removes the bass.

Interesting that they used paper on the proto.

Working on a filter that replaces the toilet paper. Also slightly different way of using the bass port (not totally sealed anymore). For now more clarity, more 'open' sounding and slight 'etch' is removed. More sparkle... the toilet paper removes a bit too much 'air' for my taste.
takes a week or so to put mods on paper. Requires soldering parts and the driver. Worth the bother to me.
